Strickland ekes out lead over Portman in Ohio

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) leads Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) in their race for Portman’s Senate seat, but only by the margin of error in a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

Strickland grabs 44 percent support in the poll, slightly more than Portman's 41 percent. The Republican incumbent has also trailed in previous surveys from the polling outlet.

Ohio voters approve of the job Portman is doing by a margin of 45 percent to 26 percent. Portman is viewed favorably by a margin of more than 2-1, 42 percent to 19 percent, while Strickland is viewed favorably 44 percent to 32 percent.

Portman is a top target in 2016 for Democrats, who need to net five seats to get back the majority in the Senate, and he has racked up hundreds of endorsements from public officials and lawmakers in the state.

This race is iffy, so it’s fortunate that Portman is sitting on a ton of cash.

Has his stance with sodomy marriage hurt him with conservatives?

It’s possible. Portman was caught between his public responsibilities and family responsibilities. Obviously he wants to be a good and supportive father.

So's Portman. He's the guy who got to DC and the first thing he did was support gay marriage because his son is gay....got the ball rolling for the Republican cave on that issue. He's an elitist corporate kinda' guy. No passion whatsoever for Constitutional Conservative issues, from the same OH party leadership that brought us Kasich and Boehner.

I'm not sure OH conservatives are going to be fooled again, and Strickland's much more popular than the guy who ran against Kasich was.

Fortunately I will have moved to AZ by then so I won’t have to vote for Rob.

Re: 4 and 5
Obviously he wants to be a good and supportive father.

If post 5 is correct (Portman supported legalizing so-called Sodomite marriages, because his son is currently trapped in the sin of homosexuality), Portman is neither a good, nor supportive, father.
If you see your son (or even a stranger, for that matter) marching off a cliff, you'd be more 'supportive' by trying to change his direction. 'Tough love' might make you hated - but it is real love, as opposed to a lie.

I also remember Portman was Romney’s “debate coach”. For that alone he should be un-elected. And slapped silly.

I am hoping that Kelli Ward (?) who is running against him in the primary and is leading will be the one I vote for but I won’t be there in time for the primary.

I have no use for him. If he loses, he only has himself to blame for violating God’s law.

FWIW, I don’t think it impressed anyone when Portman hid behind his son’s skirts (so to speak) as an excuse to support gay marriage.

In 2010, he lost by a very narrow margin to John Kasich, who’s currently running for President.

To me, this story says Ohio voters prefer the real thing over Democrat Lite.

I will never vote for him again. Not after he sent 100,000 bucks to Cochran in Mississippi to help fund the race-baiting ads in the 2014 runoff. Pity. I’ve known him personally for many years.
