S.C. joins state parties seeking to complicate Trump's run

The South Carolina Republican Party is joining the push to tie Donald Trump’s hands.

The state party announced on Tuesday that for presidential candidates to qualify for the South Carolina primary, they must pledge to support the Republican presidential nominee — and not run as a third-party candidate — in the general election.

The move comes as two other state parties, North Carolina and Virginia, ponder similar loyalty pledges. It’s an offensive that is implicitly aimed at Trump, who has repeatedly refused to rule out a third-party run.

It comes amid mounting frustration in Republican establishment circles over Trump’s candidacy. Despite coming under a hail of criticism in recent weeks, Trump has gained strength in the contest, holding steady atop state and national polls.

To qualify for the South Carolina primary — a critical early-state contest that has traditionally played a key role in shaping the Republican nomination battle — Republican candidates are being asked to sign a pledge saying they “hereby affirm that” they “generally believe in and intend to support the nominees and platform of the Republican Party in the November 8, 2016 general election.”

I wouldn’t matter if Trump signed it, he wouldn’t abide by it if he felt the process had been “unfair” to him!

Shove your loyalty oath. Conservatives can vote for Trump as a write-in candidate.

I’m not a big Trump fan, as Cruz is my man, but the GOPe are making a HUGE mistake by playing dirty tricks out in the open like this.

Such things are all but guaranteed to push Donald even higher in the polls, because most of us HATE this kind of politicking, and especially by those in whom we’ve placed any trust.

Trump will run third-party and it will be the death of the GOP.

The GOP will backstab Mr. Trump if he wins,
just as the stinking HATED EXEMPT
(co-creators of ISIS and the Benghazi and IRS Atrocities)
do now. The very same GOP attacked Gov. Palin
on the eve of Election 2008, paid for by
Romney, Rove and Ailes. (SSDD)

So if Donald Trump wins the nomination fair and square, i.e., primary voters, the Republican establishment in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and elsewhere, swear they will support the Republican candidate?

Yeah, Right!

That loyalty works only one way with these people - their way or the highway.

Trump should force their hand also. I will agree to it if you provide all the resources that I need to win.

As Trump has said, treat me fairly and I won't run as an independent. They screw over him, he says they didn't treat him fairly. They broke the agreement. Off he goes.
Bush runs and the GOPe loses again. Everyone is happy

Hey GOPe, you can shove it. You’re finished as a party as far as I’m concerned.

I will vote for Cruz if he’s the nominee. If not, I’ll write in Trump.

Two can play that game.

I support Cruz, but I hate this nonsense. Should we have supported David Duke in Louisiana a few years ago? Should the Dems have supported Larouchite Mark Fairchild in Illinois. (Al Green last year was as good as any of the Dems, however.)

Trump should wait for the other candidates to sign on, congratulate the others for agreeing to support him, and then after making the pledge, affirm that all such pledges are contingent on the Constitution, which guarantees free speech and a republican form of government, which does not contemplate blackballing candidates out of hand. In other words, he would support the nominee on the assumption that the Republican Party, in his judgment abides by its Constitutional mandate.

Can Trump run as the GOP candidate in most states and as a third party in these three states?

Yeah it should go both ways. Trump could counter with - I win then I get your support. Right?

This pledge works both ways. Are the other candidates prepared to support Donald Trump?

The GOPe have not figured out how to play this. They are like Boris and Natasha, using bombs that don't work on Rocky and Bullwinkle, out of tradition.

FOX got this political ball rolling for the GOP and Megyn stuck the knife in at the personal level.

Remember Mississippi.

Now it is Trump who is the target for FOX/Establishment.
