Neither do many Freepers.
I hear things all the time like “Trump isn’t a conservative!”
And that is where the disconnect is. Most people, most voters, are not political people.
They don’t care what an actor’s views are, they don’t care where a product was made, they don’t care if someone has a different view of economics.
For most Americans, politics is not something that defines who a person in.
So even voters who are conservative really don’t care if Trump is conservative or not.
Instead, they define him with words and phrases like ‘tough’, ‘gutsy’, ‘says what he thinks’, ‘tells it like it is’, ‘honest’.
Those words used to define ‘man’ in America. But now those traits are so rare, that when someone comes across that way it is refreshing and makes you feel good.
Trump wants to make America great again, and that idea, that concepts, those very words make people smile and think that if he wants to make America great again, then maybe America really can be great again.
I’m still voting for Cruz.
Conservative or not Trump is definitely a Capitalist. More importantly he is a 100% dyed-in-the-wool American Capitalist. After the last 7 years that’s startin’ to look pretty good. He appears to love his country and hates seeing it lose over and over again because it’s being managed by incompetent schmucks.
When you do, you may also be voting for Trump. I see them as a possible ticket.
You’re right. My friends and acquaintances are nearly uniform in their support of Trump for exactly the reasons you wrote. Some days I agree!
Mostly though, I’m uneasy about him. I’m a gal who was able to vote for Reagan twice, so clearly am “older”...but here’s the thing- I never wondered what Reagan believed or what drove him. He saw us as a great and good country and focused on giving us the chance to become more so.
Trump, instead, focuses on what a great and good guy HE is, and will therefore, MAKE us great again.
Reagan called to our best.
Trump calls us to him.
I hear things all the time like Trump isnt a conservative!
Apparently, neither are all the pro-life, anti-obamacare “conservatives” we elected to Congress and the Senate last year. They have done zero to repeal obamacare, reign in Obama’s unconstitutional power grabs and they refuse to defund Planned Parenthood even after the horrific videos exposed just how evil that organization is. What good is it to elect solidly pro-life, anti-obamacare republicans who will not do anything to keep their campaign promises? Why even bother to have any conservative litmus test if the republicans we elect are guaranteed to act like democrats once they get to DC? Trump cannot possible be as bad a liar as the majority of republicans in Congress. At least Trump won’t act like a wimp. The GOP either needs to change radically or be burnt down, I hope the Trump thing wakes them up a bit.
Great post you made.
Most people are not politically active as you say; they have a life and just want things to get done.
I think Cruz could really get it done; and long term change things more than Trump.
I think Cruz or Trump could pull voters from all sides of the political spectrum; people are fed up with all the self dealing politicians.
Agree with you completely.
