How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

By John Dillin JULY 6, 2006

Save for later WASHINGTON — George W. Bush isn't the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border. Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond. President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents – less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Singapore’s guest workers must return home periodically and stay home for a while before reapplying to come back. It’s meant to stop them from getting too attached. Singapore says guest workers should not be separated from their families for too long.

I’d wager a lot of unemployed Americans would be out rounding up illegals. Mostly legal migrants who heard of so and so cousin jumping the border living off our taxes.

Not to mention hackers raiding ID databases in foreign countries.

There would be traffic jams at the borders.

It would be a boon for Americans, and a curse for illegals that’s for sure.

There are sufficient laws on the books to do the job, and sufficient numbers of border patrol folks. Once you apprehend a guy...establish some seven-day grace period for him to prove otherwise, then put him on the bus or plane. If you wanted more laws....just establish some anti-gift/money laws on any federal or state representative who takes a bribe to change a law or allow illegals to stay...say six months in a state prison.

As long as you’re willing to jail all the politicians that incentivize them to come here also.
