Berlin (dpa) - Germany, currently inundated with asylum requests, is doing everything it can to dissuade applicants from coming who are not in danger of life and limb.
A 4-minute video placed online recently by the interior ministry is an attempt to reduce such bids from the impoverished - but political stable - Balkans. In the video with versions in Macedonian, Albanian, Serbian and Bosnian, these would-be migrants are warned that their chances of staying in Germany are slim to none.
Featuring a monotone voice accompanied by grim footage of people being searched by police and placed on a flight home, it says: "People whose applications for asylum are refused in Germany ... must leave the country in accordance with German legal regulations."
The German parliament is also trying to get the message across to the Germany's regional authorities.
For months, the federal government has been urging states in Germany to speed up deportations, but this is easier said than done.
