For the millions of Californians with job-based health coverage, this one’s for you.

And it’s a doozy.

Starting in 2018, a hefty Obamacare excise tax — known informally as the “Cadillac tax” — will target high-cost health insurance plans offered by employers.

It also aims to encourage policies that have higher out-of-pocket costs, thus discouraging you from overusing the health care system and perhaps reducing health costs overall.

So the goal of Obamacare was to discourage you from seeing your doctor. Who knew? Pelosi was right in that they had to pass the bill to see what was in it. Who gets to determine what "overusing" is? Is this another name for rationing?

That's what the free market used to do.

Without the gov't overhead.

“Opposition to the tax crosses party lines, but getting Congress to act on anything related to Obamacare is a tall order. “

Amazing, isn’t it?

Wait till the public employee sector figures out that their overly generous benefit plans are affected by this. Either they are going to pay the up charge or pass it on to the taxpayers. Wonder what they will do?

The Congressional Budget Office projects it will raise $87 billion over the next decade to help pay for other Obamacare benefits

Just keep telling yourself Obama Care is not a tax.

Folks on public healthcare and all union plans will likely get exemptions while us rich folks with private plans will make up the difference.

I’ve opted out since January of 2014. It’s drastically simplified my life and to date saved me about $20,000.

It’s called “we want you to die sooner than you otherwise would!” AKA “we want you old white people out of the way so we can complete the conversion of the USA to Communism quicker!”

Hubby is a retired firefighter who is not yet old enough to get on Medicare. His insurance is the only one offered through the county for retirees. He receives a small subsidy from the county to help with the costs but is paying $700 per mnth right out of his retirement checks. That is just for him. I have separate coverage since they wanted $900 additional to cover me.
His $700 per mnth gets him $5 copays but now with Obamacare tax I’m sure his insurance will change to avoid the tax which means he will wind up paying more.....much more.
How much is enough with these people? Not sure how much more we can pay than the $1300 per month we are now paying for dental and medical.

No. It aims to reduce care to people who have better plans than the govt thinks they should have.

Unless the County is paying a portion beyond the $700/mo. you mentioned, your husband is paying less than the $10,200 annual threshold for the tax to apply, for now anyway. When the tax kicks in it only applies to the amount above the threshold.

The county pays an additional $200 which means his insurance is actually $900 per month. That puts him above the threshold you have.
I’m just so sick of all these new rules and regs from Obamacare and our insurance has done nothing but keep going up. Our monthly insurance costs are now greater than our mortgage was. If the house wasn’t paid for there’s no way we could afford insurance.
How much more can/will people take?
