Civil War Re-Enactment Canceled After Charleston Slayings [South Carolina]

A Civil War battle re-enactment at a historic South Carolina planation has been canceled in the wake of the shooting deaths of nine black parishioners at a Charleston church in June.

Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant will not host the re-enactment of the Battle of Secessionville that was scheduled for November, according to local media outlets.

Boone Hall marketing director Rick Benthall said the event comes too soon after the slayings at Emanuel AME Church on June 17. Benthall said it was canceled out of respect for the victims' families and to allow the community to heal.

"It was a difficult decision as Boone Hall's association with this event has been long standing, but one we made and think is best on behalf of Boone Hall and the Charleston community at this time," Benthall said in a statement Tuesday.

What does one thing have to do with the other? Are they cancelling school, the County Fair, and church car washes too?

What are they going to do next, take all the Ken Burns documentaries off the shelves?

Did this reenactment years ago. Main scene is the 79th NY and the 8 MI getting cut up in front of Shank Evan’s works.

It makes about as much sense as canceling Martin Luther King Jr’s holiday as soon as the number of black on white murders gets to eight.

Yeah, there was a fatal car crash in my town the other day. We should cancel the Veterans Day Parade until the family has time to heal.

I did the pyrotechnics there for a couple of years.. it was fun blowing crap up.
After 9/11 I couldn’t get the electric matches anymore

Perhaps they would prefer it get “re-enacted” for real this time, instead of just make-believe war.

Did it a few times years ago. Once as a Confederate - the last couple of times as Federal because of numbers.

“electric matches”
Wire with gunpowder stuck on it? I used something like that to ignite Estes model rocket engines using a battery.

I went to that reenactment years ago. Had friends who were involved in Civil War (Union and Confederate) site preservation.

What the hell does this event have to do with that two bit liberal lunatic who shot blacks at a church?

Way to link yourselves in admission of guilt.

Isn’t it possible to make one with glue and charcoal?
