In New York, there's a family of four that makes half a million dollars a year and lives in public housing at $1,574 a month.
In Los Angeles, one family of five makes $205,000 a year and pays $1,100 in rent for subsidized housing. The family was admitted to the program in 1974 and has been overincome since at least 2011.
How can this be?

Still, this seems ludicrous to the families that need better housing.
As long as they’re handing out money (and the control it brings), they’re happy.
Meanwhile, hubby is being made to jump through hoops so his 96 yr old mom can get her 1000veterans survivor benefits.
Public shaming is in order. Do they name names in this article?
I think after this POST, there will be some checking and this family will be OUT?

Anyone on government “assistance” should be given the minimum subsistence for survival, that’s it. And requirements should be enforced denying ANY frivolous habits or expenses for such recipients: smoking, drinking alcohol, getting tattooed/pierced, getting $500 hair weaves, cable/internet service, a penchant for criminal behavior, etc. No one just trying to live has any business having these luxuries subsidized.
Such a policy would create an enormous motivation to get out of that dependent situation.
They must get a lot of tattoo work.
Of course HUD’s okay with that. It’s not their money!
The real test for welfare has become “how will you vote?” The tent of the Democrat party is big enough for absolutely anyone who might cast a vote for a Democrat.
“Subsidized Housing” is sometimes VERY different than what you might think. There is a lot of “subsidized housing” that is pretty darn great.
NYC has lots of units under “rent control” guidelines, an emergency program that came out of the 60’s & 70’s property price explosions or post WWII and Govt backed building loans.
So too, some nice river front high rises fall into this category.
The 5.4 BILLION Tishman-Speyer deal for Peter Cooper Village - Stuyvesant Town represents the upper edge of the problem (solution?).
