Donald Trump stuns with his new immigration policy
Boston Herald ^ | 8/17/15 | Kimberly Atkins

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is doubling down on his stance against illegal immigration with a bombshell policy paper that calls for forcing Mexico to foot the cost of a border wall by impounding the money undocumented workers send home, while ending birthright citizenship for the American-born children of non-citizen parents.

“Mexico’s leaders have been taking advantage of the United States by using illegal immigration to export the crime and poverty in their own country” while illegal workers send millions back the country in remittances, the paper states. “In short, the Mexican government has taken the United States to the cleaners. They are responsible for this problem, and they must help pay to clean it up.”

Trump detailed that and other immigration plans, in an immigration policy position paper released yesterday, the first policy statement released by Trump’s campaign. It includes a call to tighten the political asylum standards, to divert money to what he called a “refugee program for American children” in poor, unsafe neighborhoods.

Trump’s policy centers on three principles: building a wall at the Mexican border; increasing enforcement measures such as mandatory deportation of “all criminal aliens” and ending birthright citizenship; and prioritizing American workers through measures including restricted legal immigration.

But it stops short of calling for all of the estimated
11 million undocumented immigrants in the country to be deported — a position Trump has repeatedly taken in recent weeks in interviews and on the campaign stump.

The policy drew bipartisan criticism.

“It’s based on scare tactics and nativist thinking,” said
Fergus Cullen, a New Hampshire Republican strategist and co-founder of the national immigration reform advocacy group Americans by Choice.

The “problem” is that this boldness will lock him in where he is in the polls...and possibly increase a little.

i bet he gains five points nationally on this.

And the others will soon be saying “I’m for a wall too!”

I hope he’s in meetings with someone just as qualified on foreign policy. This is the policy which needs to come out next.

Put up a wall and threaten to confiscate unreported income from illegals and many of them will IMO self deport.

We also have to stop access for anchor babies to the relief system unless they have American parents or unless the parents have given their children to American relatives.

There are 16 other candidates. Where are their policy papers on anything? They talk in bumper sticker phrases. Why does Trump have to be the only one required to spell out everything?

“Mexico’s leaders have been taking advantage of the United States by using illegal immigration to export the crime and poverty in their own country”

Yes and yes. The narrative has to be turned back on Mexico and its responsibility in this.

This is the kind of policy that the citizens have been wanting, but have been denied by the politicians bought off by The Cheap Labor Express.

Put this dude down on the border in Texas and after a few months he’d most likely change his position.

co-founder of the national immigration reform advocacy group ... This group should be for reforming
the policy and getting the illegals out of the USA.

No, Fergus. It is based on what is really happening and it is your policy which is racist and discriminatory. Close to 90% of our illegal immigration comes from just three or four countries (Mexico plus three in Latin America). They are crowding out people in the rest of the world who would like to come and have desires to actually become Americans rather than turn it into a carbon copy of the sh*th013 they left.

We should select people who actually want to benefit our country and not milk it. This can't be done by granting special favor to just a single demographic.
