Not to mention rioting -- but 90% seems improbable to me. Excluding the doomed large urban areas -- the resiliency and innovation of the remaining Americans will overcome the challenge.
The rural population will be fine. Most of the deaths will be in the cities.

Methinks it is also Obama’s drive to insert the Brotherhood everywhere and kill off Israel. Obama is upset the Israelis are UNITED in their opposition to the foolish deal. He says the Israelis are the ONLY ones opposed - it's the “YOU LIE” all over again.
I don’t believe there will be time to develop the needed skill sets. With electro-mechanical mechanization down harvesting crops will be virtually impossible. Transportation will be down anyway. Where will water come from? There will be no electricity to run them. How about gas and diesel stations. No power no pumps. No refineries. These are just quick thought. I think 90% causality rate is ball park. If 0 is in office I believe he will not respond to defend the country.
EMP will be the least of the worries. Think many ICBMs, not one; think dirty nukes and major fallout. Iran wants mass death, not to teach a lesson ... think the same strike on China and Russia timed to look like the missiles are ours and then the Russian retaliation ... the deaths will not be in the hundreds or millions, but in the billions as that is the only way the Mad Mullahs can achieve their religious goal ... bringing the entire human race to Paradise (human extinction).
For the Iranians, this is not about a treaty, but about achieving a religious goal ... which is why they were so deliriously happy when the treaty was finalized.
