I used to give a lift home to one of the children of a former well known mob family all the time when I was younger but didn’t really think about it much. I used to live in New Jersey and had mob connections. (Hey - I wasn’t about to bury my garbage in my own backyard!)
As a developer I imagine that Trump was never more than three levels away from the mob. And anyone writing a book would be able to figure it out. Something like the contractor he used hired bricklayers that got their supplies from a mob front.
When I moved to NJ it was pretty amazing how involved the mob was with so much stuff (early 1980’s when I moved there). For a kid from the Midwest I thought the mob was only in the movies.

First of all you’re going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there’s the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I’m sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that’ll cost ya. Oh and don’t forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there’s long term costs such as waste disposal. I don’t know if you’re familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it’s not the boyscouts.
