Jerusalem fire in Lake County continues to increase
As Cal Fire ramped up efforts Sunday night to fight Lake Countys newly raging Jerusalem fire, estimated at 5,000 acres and growing, sheriffs deputies arrested a Lake County man suspected of starting a separate fire in the area in an attempt to protect his marijuana garden, sheriffs officials said Monday.
The Lake County Sheriffs Office said Juan Ramos Silva, 51, of Lower Lake was arrested at about 6 p.m. Sunday. Hed told deputies and fire officials hed been a firefighter years ago while living in Mexico and hed wanted to set a control burn to protect his property in case the Jerusalem fire closed in, sheriffs officials said in a release.
The property, on remote Spruce Grove Road, reportedly included a large marijuana garden growing close to a home.
