This “deal” marks the beginning of the end of coercive American involvement in the region. It had been America’s stated policy that Iran must dismantle its nuclear infrastructure and never be permitted to have nuclear weapons. The US had assembled powerful military forces in the region and had instituted punishing economic sanctions to effectuate that policy. Face it. Obama has changed that policy and has backed off.
