Jeb Bushs most famous, or infamous, remark of the campaign season was that a Republican candidate must be willing to lose the primary in order to win the general election. For the most part, Bush has campaigned like he meant what he said: Hes defended his positions on immigration reform and Common Core, though theyre unpopular with much of the Republican base, and he angered conservatives on Capitol Hill by pushing for a confirmation vote on Attorney General Loretta Lynch, which some were trying to hold up at the time.
But in the week leading up to the first Republican debate on Thursday, some saw the first rightward shifts in Bushs policy. Bush remains in second place in the vast majority of national polls, but he will obviously need to win over more voters to capture the nomination. That could prove challenging for a candidate who consistently posts poor favorability ratings with Republican voters, sometimes even lower than Donald Trumps. Some say the apparent ideological shift is an attempt to change that. I think hes attempting to do two things at once: He wants to be seen as kind of the adult in the room whos operating in shades of gray and is a real leader as opposed to Donald Trump, says a top Republican strategist. But at the same time I think he knows that he needs to make himself more attractive to conservatives.

Like Trump...he is “evolving”
Is Jeb pretending to shift to the right? Pretty hard to go any more left than presenting Hillary with a Medal of Freedom....
Good answer. Leave it to NR to position Bush as the “right” candidate...
Jeb is just trying to fool the base into supporting him.
Every one except Cruz will shift right to get elected. Cruz is already there.
He will shift any which way he can, just so it suits his progressive agenda ultimately.
In plain words..a politician is the lowest form of life, and a progressive politician is the lowest form of a politician.
If you havent heard that before..
Jeb is only posing as an ersatz conservative for the primary season. If the old fart RINO’s make him the nominee he’ll go right back to being a RINO lapdog just like his masters want him to be.
I think it’s more like the skin that forms on top of a cup of hot chocolate. It has a tensile strength of zero.
Cruz had it right this weekend—Jeb is one of many “campaign conservatives” in this race.
Jeb is just trying to fool the base into supporting him.
**************
Is probably a good strategy for him. The base likes to be fooled and deceived. Just sayin....
He is pretending that he’ll secure the border and enforce immigration law.
No, he’s not—there are a number of them in this race.
Jebra is now depicted as moving to the right?
Where do they find these writers?
What a flight of fantasy...
If you have to shift to the right, it’s because you’re on the left.
I have no doubt that Jethro will do or say anything that he thinks will get him elected, just like Mario Rubio.
The only way the Dauphin Jeb the Inevitable will shift to the right, is if he looks out the window of that side of the limo.
