Ex-Trump Strategist Explains What The Hell is Going On With the GOP Frontrunner
The Daily Beast ^ | August 10, 2015 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 08/10/2015 8:35:45 AM PDT by OddLane

A few days ago, Donald Trump’s senior advisor, Roger Stone, suddenly left the campaign. Stone insists he resigned, and that Team Trump simply caught wind of his imminent departure, and leaked word he had been terminated.

I’ve known the legendary strategist for years, and have interviewed him numerous times. I caught up with him for a quick phone call on Monday morning. As always, Roger Stone is both quotable and colorful. Enjoy.

Good to talk with you, as always. What the hell happened this weekend?

I wasn’t fired. I quit. And I quit because I felt I was having no impact on the direction of the campaign, which got off to an extraordinarily good start. I think he’s unique, in that he has the stature and the media access and independence to drive a reform message all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Trump is smiling right now...because he knows firing Stone was exactly the right move. Who needs such a self-serving, low gutter snake as an advisor? And Stone is talking his way out of his next consulting gig.

did you read this?

He did not badmouth Trump at all
in fact he bent over backwards to extoll Trump’s virtues.

He did take exception with Trump fighting Fox News ...so I guess if Trump is criticized at all by anyone about anything that is a bad thing and is considered trashing?

I agree. I didn’t read any bad mouthing. What I read was exactly what I’ve been saying since this whole crazy thing happened. I think he handled Megyn in the debate, and he just couldn’t let it go - calling her a bimbo - and then talking about blood coming out of her eyes, etc. Most people would use smoke coming out of her ears - or something to that effect. I’m going to get piled on here - but, Roger is saying exactly what I felt after this all happened. Trump needs some coaching. Maybe Donald is a great salesman, but, he has something to learn about choice of words. What is funny, is I was talking to a friend last night and said the very same thing - that because Donald is a celebrity - they get accustomed to having yes people around them - and if someone steps up to try and save that person from themselves - they get fired. I used Elvis Presley as an example. Over the years, some tried to get him help, and his reaction was to immediately fire them, never realizing he had a problem. They get so famous and rich, they believe they are untouchable. I’m still watching Trump, but if this childish tweeting aka name calling over every little thing continues - I’m done with him. I agree with fighting back when attacked, but he handled the situation in the debate and should have let it drop.

So he leaves the campaign and goes out and bad-mouths his former employer.

This guy was defending Trump on CNN Saturday. Went on for two segments.

He (Stone) had this to say about Trump:
"Trump’s style is not going to change. He is unscripted. He is unhandled. He is un-coached. Nobody puts words in his mouth. He does operate his own Twitter feed..."

This is something we've never seen before. Usually a presidential candidate has his public statements go through a handful of staffers and the result is a canned press release full of slogans and cliches.

Trump just picks up his mobile device and sends out a Tweet to the world whenever he feels like it. In an interview situation, you never know what will come out of his mouth.

Some people say this is a bad thing and will be eventually be Trump's downfall. If so, that is sad.

This may be our last opportunity to see a presidential candidate just as he really is.

I don’t think Trump has much control over the fact that somebody spread far and wide a sexist and belabored misinterpretation of what he said.

Most likely, this is just a minor cultural inoculation against what the Clinton campaign has in mind. Already look at what is happening to Bernie Sanders, it’s time to get a counter-current going before we are all up to our pits in microaggressions galore!

Wow! That’s actually pretty good article! I’m shocked!

“...So how does this end?

This is going to be a very long race. I think that because all the primaries up till March 14 are proportional…you could have a very long, drawn out struggle for the nomination. You could have a brokered convention. Therefore, you could have a convention that is settled on the basis of negotiations between the camps. And there is no greater negotiator than Donald Trump.”

Best part is at the end(though I don’t expect Trump to make it that far, he may).

Look, he’s the greatest salesman who ever lived. And that enthusiasm, that upbeat enthusiasm, kind of reminds me of Reagan. He thinks the country is in deep trouble. But that our best days are still ahead of us, not behind us. And it can be infectious. Those of us who are still Trump loyalists use as our hashtag #yuge. The people who use that are the Trump loyalists.

The guy is still a Trump loyalist and supporter. Seems like he made an impulsive decision to leave and might even regret it. Maybe he and Trump need to bury the hatchet and start working together again.

He admits he quit because they wouldn't listen to him, but the campaign got off to "an extraordinarily good start."

Wow, does he grasp what he said there?

They did it over my objections.

Okay, I've taken the guy to task. I'm going to give him a huge kudo too.

I don't think I've seen a statement like this in print before and it's one that is a the very core of the illegal immigration issue.

If any illegal commits any crime…that’s one crime too many.

Every single crime committed by an illegal alien, is a crime that never should have happened. We have thousands of dead people, raped people, molested chidlren, and victims of many other crimes... not one of these crimes should have taken place.

Whatever else this man is, he grasps that point.

So few do.

He’s leaving the door open, sounds like office politics went against him and he’s waiting for it to all shake out.

We saw what happened to Sarah Palin when they did it the way McCain’s campaign wanted.

Matt Lewis is a propagandist for The Cheap Labor Express.
Everything he writes is suspect. Take it with a boulder of salt.

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 41m41 minutes ago Roger Ailes just called. He is a great guy & assures me that “Trump” will be treated fairly on @FoxNews. His word is always good!

The fact that he did not diss. Trump publicly simple.means that the Donald and company have something on Stone of great magnitude. It doesn’t mean he is truly supporting Trump

Trump owns him.

That’s because Trump has something to offer to US history whereas this guy is a nobody.

Why do people spend time with losers? That’s what you should find ‘funny’.

While I will admit that the moderators were gunning for Trump, and if anyone watched the Kelly File leading up to the debate - she was absolutely giddy about their plan to “handle” Trump. Now, someone try to tell me they weren’t deliberately gunning for him -they WERE. I don’t understand what Trump means by treating him fairly. What does this mean? He’s getting more coverage than any of the other candidates - which is sad. Maybe he refers to the name calling - rodeo clown, cancer, hurting our brand, etc. Okay, I guess I answered my own question. LOL

Ha—most of the coverage has been to tear him down, cut him to bits, and bury him.

Of course, his showing up at appearances with a knife and shovel in hand hasn’t helped.
