Republicans are dead-set on winning back the Buckeye State. Thursday’s raucous GOP debate in Cleveland is the beginning of an aggressive campaign by Republicans to win Ohio’s 18 electoral votes that includes returning to the city’s Quicken Loans Arena for the 2016 Republican National Convention.

If the Republicans would produce promised results, they wouldn’t have to worry about winning back states. Do the things you say you’re going to do and the rest will take care of itself. Just sayin...

Ohio is almost a lost cause. It will elect Repubs in off years. But for presidential elections it’s been trending badly for the GOPe. Bush barely beat kerry in 2004. And Obama’s cleaned up in 08, and 12.

I remember Hannity’s buddy on election day (I forget his name, he’s sort of eccentric), telling Hannity listeners to ignore the exit polls, Ohio was in the bag. The lines for Romney were huge.

Ohio has always had an historically powerful “blue” belt (Youngstown-Cleveland-Toledo) populated by union types.

Counterbalanced by “red” tendencies in the rest of the state.

Cincinnati and Columbus have turned decidedly “blue” in recent years, shifting the balance. There just aren’t enough people to make that up elsewhere.
