Iran Isn’t Nazi Germany: Is it really true that Iran seeks another Holocaust?
The Atlantic ^ | 08/07/2015 | Peter Beinart

Mike Huckabee’s sin was being too vivid.

Last week, after the Republican presidential hopeful said that by signing the Iran nuclear deal, President Barack Obama “would take the Israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven,” a parade of organizations and politicians accused him of inflammatory language and bad taste. But in both the United States and Israel, Huckabee’s core assumption—that the Iranian government is genocidally anti-Semitic—is mainstream. In January, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that “The ayatollahs in Iran, they deny the Holocaust while planning another genocide against our people.” Last month, Fox News host Sean Hannity called the Iran deal “the equivalent of giving Adolf Hitler weapons of mass destruction.”

The fact that a nuclear attack on Israel would also kill Palestinians, argued Texas Senator Ted Cruz recently, would not deter Tehran because “they would view the murder of those Palestinians” as “perfectly acceptable collateral damage to annihilating millions of Jews.”

ar from being marginal or extreme, Huckabee’s claim—that Iranian leaders seek another Holocaust—sits at the emotional core of the debate over the nuclear accord with Tehran. But the closer you look, the weaker that claim is.

In asserting that Iran seeks to murder all Jews, politicians like Huckabee, Cruz, and Netanyahu focus overwhelmingly on words. “When people who are in a government position continue to say they’re going to kill you,” said Huckabee, “I think somebody ought to wake up and take that seriously.” “If history teaches one lesson,” added Cruz, “it is that if somebody tells you they want to kill you, believe them.”

But that’s not actually history’s lesson. It’s not true that the best way to predict a regime’s behavior is by its most menacing words. In 1956, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev famously told Westerners, “We will bury you”

“It’s not true that the best way to predict a regime’s behavior is by its most menacing words. In 1956, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev famously told Westerners, “We will bury you””

And by all accounts, that’s exactly what the Soviet Union set out to do, spreading hardcore Communism and doing all it could to build the most powerful army in the world. They went so far as to create - and demonstrate - “Tsar Bomba”, a ONE HUNDRED MEGATON THERMONUCLEAR WEAPON, which was so lethal they turned its yield down 50% and still detonated the most powerful human-created blast. They entered into an arms race with the USA, aka the Cold War, dominated by Mutual Assured Destruction (to wit, if the war actually went hot - which it very nearly did several times by a matter of minutes - civilization as we know it would have been largely wiped out in about a half hour). Fortunately Ronald Regan opted to out-spend this attempt to “bury you” and the USSR evaporated as a political entity when they simply couldn’t pay government workers anymore.

Just because someone promises to kill you doesn’t mean they will, but it does mean you’d d@mn well do something to stop them ASAP.

there seems to be a deliberate effort right now on the left (and especially among jewish leftists), to push the meme that iran is open and tolerant to jews and that any rhetoric to the contrary is actually what’s anti-semitic. King Barry I of Kenya has put out the call to his fellow travelers to get behind his iran deal.

he’s evil. so are they.

Iran has repeatedly stated its intention to destroy the United States. Also, to take over the gulf oil fields. And, to destroy Israel.

No fancy essays in a niche liberal magazine can get around these simple facts.

The question then is.. why does anyone try to deny, sugar-coat, and.or cover up....today’s Hitlerian regime and its aggressive, mass-murdering attack plans against us?

Not even reading this, another naive fool.

People like this are going to get people like me killed.

They better hope they kill me, if they harm my family it’s going to get very ugly.

“...especially among jewish leftists...”

Don’t you hate stupid Jews? I hate them. Generally I rely on Jews to be smart, but there are many foolish, stupid Jews, esp. in the USA.

This guy has an IQ lower than the Fox News moderators.

The article says,

“When people who are in a government position continue to say they’re going to kill you,” said Huckabee, “I think somebody ought to wake up and take that seriously.” “If history teaches one lesson,” added Cruz, “it is that if somebody tells you they want to kill you, believe them.”

But that’s not actually history’s lesson. It’s not true that the best way to predict a regime’s behavior is by its most menacing words. In 1956, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev famously told Western diplomats, “We will bury you” (also translated as, “We will be present at your funeral”). In the 1970s, Soviet officials openly boasted that they could win a nuclear war.

So note the Atlantic article, cherry picks and conflates quotes from Huckabee and Cruz.

But let's unravel and look at what each of them said.

Huckabee:

The president can’t tell you what we got. I’ll tell you what the world got. The world has a burgeoning nuclear power that didn’t, as the Soviets, say “we might defend ourselves in a war.”

What the Iranians have said is, “we will wipe Israel off the face of the map, and we will bring death to America.” When someone points a gun at your head and loads it, by God, you ought to take them seriously, and we need to take that seriously.

Note that Huckabee quoted the Soviets; the Atlantic cuts that part out, and then pretends Huckabee was ignoring the Soviets (presumably through ignorance from not having attended the correct tony, chic East Coast University).

And according to the Time Magazine transcript of the debates, (use the search function in your browser, when Google brings the transcript up), I couldn't find any such quote about "If history teaches one lesson" from any of the candidates. Not even just the word "lesson."

Nor could I find it within the Washington Post's transcript.

Huh.

Almost like the old TV game show Whose Line Is It Anyway, where "Everything's made up and the points don't matter."

But these are supposed to be the intellectuals?

Notice how none of the politicians, newstards or radio babblers ever bring up the possibility that Iran might ALREADY HAVE several nuclear weapons NOW ? Maybe they agreed to this toothless treaty because they have already achieved some of their nuclear goals?

I would point out that using any weapon or a war which creates mass death is the central premise of the ruling Iranian Mullahs’ religion - Shia Twelvers all.

It is not a question of “hardliners” vs “moderates” - they all believe the same thing\: to wit only by creating mass death will the scent of blood lure the 12th Imam pout of the well he climbed into centuries ago. And when he emerges, he will lead a war of annihilation on all who are not muslim, and then kill themselves - bringing all of humanity to Paradise aka extinction.

By using nuclear weapons, the Iranian Mullahs will simply be practicing their religion: the more deaths, including their own, the better.

These guys are not Russian Communists from the last century who wanted to spread an economic theory, rather these guys want to kill you now, not later, and bring you to Paradise. This is a non-negotiable point.

Iran doesn’t want another Holocaust.

It was too labor-intensive.

They’d much rather annihilate all the world’s Jews with nukes.
