Murdoch wanted them to go after Trump. They did and Megyn was the main missile.
They pulled 24,000,000 viewers, the largest audience for a Primary Debate in the history of history of debates. Fox management is pleased as punch with Megyn and are only disappointed that, despite their total destruction of Trump he was still the consensus winner of the debate.
OTOH, you are at least partly correct. My Megyn Loyal Wife told she wants a divorce - from Megyn who is now banned from our household.
