More than 3,500 people have been held in a secretive Chicago Police warehouse described by critics as a CIA-style 'black site', it emerged today.
New documents reveal that 82 per cent of the people held in Homan Square were black, sparking fears that the racial disparity of detentions between white and ethnic minorities suggests a serious civil rights violation.

Documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by The Guardian showed most of the 3,540 people held in Homan Square between September 2004 and June 2015 were charged with drugs possessions, but others for minor crimes including public urination and driving without a seat-belt.
The Chicago Police department has repeatedly denied that Homan Square is secretive, saying it is like any other force facility in the city.
'There are always records of anyone who is arrested by CPD, and this is not any different at Homan Square.'

Nully,that 3500 is over a ten year period, 350 per year or less than one a day. There’s no mention of duration of stays. Nor a numerical breakdown of
charges.
Friday and Saturday night arrests would spend the week end in dentention before monday court visits.
I hold no brief for Chicago PD but before I go off on them would like to see more info.
NYC’s Riker’ s Island I’m sure has proportionate numbers.
If Obama pardons them and provides reparations I’m sure that they will live happily ever after as law-abiding, productive members of Chicago society.
The article does not state which neighborhoods or precincts are served by Homan. This might be an important piece of information to have, in determining why 82% of the inmates were black.
However, the article does mention that the black and white populations of Chicago are each about 32%-33% of the total population.
Given that the black crime rate is consistently ten times that of the white crime rate; one would reasonably expect that the inmate population of Homan (if it drew from the entire city) would be 91% black and 9% white (assuming the remaining third of the population were law-abiding).
82% doesn’t seem out of line. As to the other allegations; who knows?

I've bought two Chicago cops, an alderman and a traffic court judge. 4 of the last 6 guvs have gone to prison. Our president was sent to Springfield, and the US Senate, kicking off his political career, by these same people.
It's hard for me assign some innocent explanation to something so consistently and famously corrupt.

Every time I hear or see something like this anymore, it's like a giant off switch and I roll my eyes. Zero credibility. Consider all the instances of hoax hate crimes -- staged and self-inflicted every time.
This article is ruined by its focus on racism. #1 Black, white, whatever doesn’t matter. Unconstitutionally detaining ANY American citizen is the issue. #2 This unconstitutional, immoral travesty is happening in a Democrat owned and operated city! The people (Democrats) in charge of this operation should themselves be lawfully arrested and charged on federal civil rights charges.

Surprisingly, there was a fairly complete and accurate description and portrayal of this "facility" in the fictional TV series "The Good Wife" which portrays widespread corruption and government employee criminal behavior in Chicago. Seems they draw a lot of plotlines from real events, and get 'em on air before the "investigators" get their manila envelopes.
