Break the rule in the sense that there has never been a president without previous political or military experience. Wendell Wilkie I think was the only nominee to fit that bill and of course he lost in a landslide.

Not to quibble, but Wilkie actually came within 10% of FDR and made the next best showing of FDR's four elected terms. Only Tom Dewey did marginally better four years later.

Another bit of trivia is that Wilkie busted his butt to promote and sell war bonds and died suddenly a month before the 1944 election. He was only 52.

Well, when you throw in "military," yeah. But given the absence of the types of wars we had in the 19th and early 20th century, business is a substitute for that now. I don't find that at all historically odd. In fact, that is one of the "rules" people seem intent on breaking.

"Experienced" people like McLame and Grahamnesty and Mittens and Dole and McConnell and Boehner---need I go on?---have DESTROYED this country. So, yeah, I have no problem with Trump not having political or military experience.
