8-4-15

At 7:00 in the audio the panel asks Trump about single payer:

“It works for Canada. Not the U.S. I like private enterprise, create competition, private system, open the state lines. I want a lot of bidders. As for those who cannot afford healthcare, you have got to take care of those people. About 25% in this category. Work out deals with hospitals who are not doing that well right now.”

“I don’t care about Trump’s past views. I care about his current positions.”

You know, I’d hoped that if anyone on the planet had learned the value of skepticism of politicians running for office, it would be FReepers, what with our experiences with Romney, Rubio, Christie, Rand Paul, etc, ad nauseum.

Nope, everybody wants to learn the hard way I guess.

I’m going to need a little more explanation than “supports 2nd ammendment rights.” Bozo the president says that too.

There's a fine line between reasonable skepticism and being a paranoid jerk. (Not calling you that, just the shills) I was never excited about any of those tards listed. If Freepers were, well, that's their problem. DT has nothing in common with any of them.

“DT has nothing in common with any of them.”

Sure he does. He has a whole different set of positions now than he did a few years ago, and he’s essentially saying “trust me, these are my real opinions now”.

I actually see 2 commonalities there:

1. He conveniently shifts positions depending on who he is trying to appeal to.
2. He asks us to just believe him instead of doing the hard work of demonstrating his principles in action before asking for our trust.

He’s a capitalist, the right people hate him, and he’s making liberal heads explode. What’s not to like?

There has been nothing convenient about the 24/7 carpet bombing he's taken from the GOP/MSM/DEMS. Death threats from El Chapo, losing multi-million dollar deals with Macys, Univision, etc.

Sticking by what he said and doubling down on it is hard work compared to "walking it back" and has earned a lot of trust with the public. None of those candidates have done anything inconvenient, and that's why they suck.

Huh? Did you read my comment?

I said he conveniently shifted his positions to tailor them to his intended audience. The “GOP/MSM/DEMS” are not his intended audience, so how they respond is irrelevant. His new positions obviously appeal to his intended audience, Republican voters, just look at the poll numbers.

This was all taken from Trump’s book: “Time to Get Tough: Making America Great Again”.

This is pure protectionism, and it purely sucks. Dealbreaker.

So tell me all-knowing swami. Where is this mythical candidate that has nothing but correct answers for every thing conservatives desire? I'm a Ted Cruz guy, but disagree that we need more H1Bs. Do you support H1B expansion, or is that a deal breaker as well?

There is not such thing as a candidate that checks every box for every Freeper. If we insist on that and stay home then the Dems win again. We need to get the most conservative candidate possible and Trump is in the top four in that regard.

"I don’t care about Trump’s past views. I care about his current positions"

Well, he went on "Morning Joe" Friday before last and said that some of his positions are those of a Democrat. So even if you're willing to deliberately blind yourself to the fact that he was a registered Democrat six years ago, that's pretty current.

Oh, if it's Trump versus Hillary I'll probably vote for him.

But if any of Cruz, Walker, Perry, Jindal, Paul, or Carson are on the ballot when my primary comes round, they get the nod over Trump.

They don't want this guy vetted. FR railed against Romney, and rightly so, but with Trump, it's as though they've fallen head over heels in love and refuse to hear anything negative about their beloved.

The trade protection is exactly what we need. We had high tariffs for 180 years and our industries prospered, while competition between American firms kept prices low and quality high.

Since we almost eliminated tariffs in the 60’s, our economy has grown progressively weaker and we have lost numerous industries. We don’t need to fear retaliation because our trade deficit is so high. It’s almost 5 to 1 with China. So let them tariff us back.

I agree they should have cited sources, but with just a couple of positions, I can confirm those are Trump’s positions. He is pro-traditional marriage. Not sure if he considers gay rights a state’s issue...that’s a losing proposition because it’s federal judges that are driving it.

What are you talking about? Trump was a Reagan supporter.

Not how his book painted it. Reagan supporters arent on record saying America does better under Democrats unless something changed with conservatism I’m unaware of.

See, Reagan was a Republican. Not sure you knew that but I looked it up. It’s true. And saying dems are...aw nevermind. you will refuse to accept reality anyway.

This was from a recent attempted hit piece on Trump. Roy Cohn was a big NYC figure, but here are the relevant sections re: Trump’s support for Reagan:

Cohn, a registered Democrat, was a Reaganphile. On the grand piano in his law office rested a framed photo of the former president and a letter of thanks he sent to Cohn. He and his law partner, Thomas Bolan, who could not be reached for comment, fundraised tirelessly for his 1980 campaign.

According to Trump’s friend, Cohn acted to “recruit Donald and Donald’s father for Reagan’s finance committee.” In an 1983 Times report, Trump was characterized as a Reagan supporter and was said to have visited the White House “several times.” There’s a picture of the two together, shaking hands. Trump, his hair darker and fuller, in a pinstripe suit and shiny, light pink tie; and Reagan, looking duller by comparison.

Today, Trump’s campaign slogan is “Make America Great Again!” Which was Reagan’s slogan in 1980. Trump has claimed he invented the slogan and trademarked it in order to prevent other candidates from using it in speeches. “I mean, I get tremendous raves for that line,” Trump told The Daily Mail. “You would think they would come up with their own. That is my whole theme.”

You claimed he wasn’t a Reagan supporter, and I’ve giving you evidence that he was. He was on a Reagan campaign finance committee, he made several visits to the Reagan White House, and he was reported to be a Reagan supporter in the press in 1983.

Yeah, he was awkward in trying to explain away some of his Democrat support. But there are some charts out there that actually show the economy tending to do better under Democrat presidents. That’s probably in part because we elect so many big-government GOP presidents, and when they are in office, Republicans in congress don’t fight any of their spending initiatives, such as in the W administration.
