Netherlands abandoning multiculturalism

Famously progressive and permissive Holland has tried multiculturalism and decided that it just doesn’t work.  In a historic reversal, the Dutch are abandoning government policies in support of multiculturalism and demanding intregration and acceptance of Dutch values from immigrants, mostly Muslims, who now constitute 6% of their population.

The Gatestone Institute reports:

A new integration bill (covering letter and 15-page action plan), which Dutch Interior Minister Piet Hein Donner presented to parliament on June 16, reads: "The government shares the social dissatisfaction over the multicultural society model and plans to shift priority to the values of the Dutch people. In the new integration system, the values of the Dutch society play a central role. With this change, the government steps away from the model of a multicultural society."

The letter continues: "A more obligatory integration is justified because the government also demands that from its own citizens. It is necessary because otherwise the society gradually grows apart and eventually no one feels at home anymore in the Netherlands. The integration will not be tailored to different groups."

Immigrants will be required to learn the Dutch language and no exceptions to obedience to Dutch law will be allowed for followers of sharia.  In addition, the government will stop subsidizing Muslims and making special criteria for their employment...and will ban the burqa:

The government will also stop offering special subsidies for Muslim immigrants because, according to Donner, "it is not the government's job to integrate immigrants." The government will introduce new legislation that outlaws forced marriages and will also impose tougher measures against Muslim immigrants who lower their chances of employment by the way they dress. More specifically, the government will impose a ban on face-covering Islamic burqas as of January 1, 2013.

I’ve lived in Holland for 6 months. I never had a problem with English at all. Other than the elderly, almost everyone speaks English.

Diversity requires more government. Trying to force the “diverse” to integrate will also require more government. The only real solution is not to let them in the country in the first place.

That may well be decided in a matter of mere months. The Trump phenomenon reflects the rush to a moment of decision.

I’m liking it more and more. One of my best friends growing up wen’t to Holland on vacation. That was nearly 10 years ago and he refuses to come back haha. I believe he became a citizen there 8 years ago. I can’t remember exactly how it went down.

I am just completely enamored by a government that truly supports its people.

I am only 30 years old and have never witnessed that.

Liberals apparently don’t understand what an advantage it is to be bilingual. If America were to require immigrants to learn basic English language the left sees racist, nationalistic white Americans trying to keep the immigrants oppressed.

What awesome news! Hope to see more European countries follow this approach because that will mean the USA won’t be far behind.

To be clear, I’m not against immigrants bringing to the US what makes their home culture great (good food, work ethics, skilled labor, etc), I’m against all the other crap that illegals have been bringing in. If you are going to live in a country, it should be common sense to make an effort to learn the language of that country and learn how to integrate yourself into the culture (not change your own, just adapt). I fully expect to do the same if I ever take a job in another country. To do anything else is an insult to that country.
