"... The five teachers, who are part of a TV series in which they take over the education of a class of 50 teenagers, have said British pupils unruly behaviour is directly linked to welfare handouts that has produced adolescents with rude behaviour.
The teachers are starring in BBC Two's “Are Our Kids Tough Enough Chinese School” as part of a three-part documentary that begins Tuesday.
.. Yang Jun, a science teacher who taught in schools in Xian before moving to the UK, said: “In China we don't need classroom management skills because everyone is disciplined by nature, by families, by society. Whereas here that is the most challenging part of teaching.”
She was also confused by a teenage girl who left the classroom in tears after reading reports that singer Zayn Malik had quit the boy band One Direction.
She said: “I found it difficult to understand such emotional behaviour over a pop band.”
She also challenged an individualised approach to pupil learning.
She said: “You have different syllabuses to suit different students' ability. We don't. We have one syllabus, one standard; you survive or you die. It's up to you.”

Yes, they are generous. They haven’t run out of other peoples’ money yet.
I also strongly suspect the BBC is going to find the answer to their question “Are British students tough enough for Chinese school” is going to be “No.” At least if you go to the average British classroom. I’m sure there are some schools that cater to the exceptional and talented kids where they will do just fine.
Can’t argue with that.

It is generally acknowledged that the 19th century was the British century, and the 20th century was the American century. The 21st century will be the Chinese century. Perhaps Russia will settle for second place.

That’s why, when you go to your local Chinese restaurant, those kids in the booths are doing their homework. It has more to do with solid family backgrounds. Are the Chinese racist? I guess they are, because they think certain cultures are just lazy.
This is the same for The West in general, we got too fat, dumb and happy.
Believe me, under Soviet and Chinese Communism, you didn’t get anything handed to you.....You either had to stand in line, or know someone who could get something for you.

Sounds harsh, but it is a good way of putting it. No coddling, no affirmative action, no worries about 'self-esteem'.
Not coming any time soon to a Public School in your neighborhood... In fact our Universities are running away from SATs - or anything that allows an assessment of one's knowledge.
It has already happened here too. It describes our own classrooms here.
