On Friday, we checked in on the Pentagons ongoing effort to recruit, vet, and train ambitious "freedom fighters" to join the battle against ISIS in Syria.
It goes without saying that covert US efforts to aid the multifarious groups vying for control of the country have met with disastrous consequences so far, but if theres anything Washington is particularly adept at, its making bad foreign policy outcomes worse, which is why we werent at all surprised to learn that the commander of the Pentagon's new Syrian "force" was captured, along with his deputy, by al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra last week near the border with Turkey.
The NY Times called the kidnapping "perhaps [the] most embarrassing setback yet," for Washingtons ragtag contingent of volunteer militiamen and indeed, the fact that the Pentagon had hoped to field a "force" of 3,000 men by the end of the year but has so far only managed to train 54 speaks to the futility of the entire effort.

President Barack Obama has authorized using air power to defend a new U.S.-backed fighting force in Syria if it is attacked by Syrian government forces or other groups, raising the risk of the American military coming into direct conflict with the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
U.S. officials said the decision ended a months long debate over the role the American military should play in supporting its few allies on the battlefield in Syria.

They have more important things to cover, I guess, like attacking Trump, and saving Hillary.
Cecil the lion is high on the list also.
Once those “freedom fighters are trained” , the biggest portion of them will be brought to the Good Ole U.S. of A to fight for “freedom” over here.
So, attacking Syria who has been attacking ISIS will defeat ISIS? Seems like the US is proposing a way to help ISIS conquer Syria. And the US/Turkey strikes against Kurds? Just what the heck is going on in Syria and Iraq now? Are we giving air support to ISIS?
Assad is toast though. No point in trying to prop him up. Plus he is back by real bad guys, i.e. Iran and their Hezbollah mini-me’s. Better the Sunni wackadoos win than that scum. Remember the Hostage “Crisis.”
Uh, didn't congress vote against going to war against Syria???
Obama is supporting the rebels, which basically are ISIS...Obama wants to attack Syria...Iran and Obama supposedly are jointly attacking ISIS...Iran and Russia are Syria's allies...Turkey, a member of Nato is now attacking the Kurds who are fighting ISIS...
This is like reading a comic book...
After they give their brand new weapons (again) to ISIS...
....commander of the Pentagon’s new Syrian “force” was captured, along with his deputy, by al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra last week near the border with Turkey....
Were these Americans or not?
Don’t worry. There are plenty of deserving targets.
Obama is setting some interesting precedents for how Sovereignty should be viewed internationally.
“What is clear and what I indicated tonight to President Mubarak is my belief that an orderly transition must be meaningful, it must be peaceful and it must begin now.”
—Barack Hussein Obama, February 1, 2011
“You have seen with great clarity that he has lost legitimacy with his people. So let me just be very unambiguous about this. Colonel Qaddafi needs to step down from power and leave. That is good for his country. It is good for his people. It’s the right thing to do.”
—Barack Hussein Obama, March 2, 2011
The future of Syria must be determined by its people, but President Bashar al-Assad is standing in their way. For the sake of the Syrian people, the time has come for President Assad to step aside.
—Barack Hussein Obama, August 18, 2011
One thing I think Americans should be proud of, when Tunisians began to protest, this nation me, my administration stood with them earlier than just about any country. In Egypt we stood on the side of democracy, in Libya we stood on the side of the people.
—Barack Hussein Obama, October 21, 2012
obama starts one war after another and always in favor of the terrorists.
Yep, that’s exactly right. The same question relates to McCain who is a big “Free Syria” a.k.a. ISIS fan.
