In this case if he was just on the field doing work, it would bother me more.
You might think so. But even if he shouldnt have been there, big kids - even schoolboys, say nothing of college men, are trained to be responsible for what happens to a little kid on their watch.
You're right about that......I had a friend back in the 70's who was backing his car out of his driveway and ran over a little neighbor child that had gotten behind his car and was unable to be observed in any of the rear view mirrors. He was never the same........
You know, I love your "Compassion".
If the world were perfect and everyone followed your actions, the word "ACCIDENT" could be the very first word ever removed from the dictionary..........
It must be wonderful to be in the position you are in, a spectator on life events, and able to make such incisive criticism..........
Are they trained?
Accidents will always happen, even with training. It is worse when you do or believe you contributed to it.
Doctors and nurses make mistakes all the time - iatrogenic deaths - that result in patients’ deaths, they have to not let it destroy them even though they may realize they caused it.
Get your hankies out for this one....I haven’t been so upset over something in quite some time, it’s just so sad and tragic.

(You’ll see why I didn’t go by DM’s title, I thought it was very poorly written)
I managed LL for seven years, and I was always afraid of the on-deck circle.
In the league that I played in growing up (and then coached), fields where I played growing up (and then coached), a coach was always positioned at the end of the dugout that was adjacent to the on-deck circle. Anyone trying to go from the dugout to the on-deck area while someone was already taking swings would get an earful from the coach.
Man. That picture of her on her father’s shoulders.....
I cannot begin to imagine the pain the father is going through.
Name of a town. If you think that's bad how about living in Peculiar, Mo.?
