The current feel-good push for a $15 an hour minimum wage has nothing to do with helping workers and everything to do with advancing the goals of the left wing, especially the labor movement. This is true despite the occasionally soaring rhetoric of President Obama amid the Left's incessant whining about "income inequality," itself a particularly un-American concept, an imaginary evil that dwells only in the nightmares of left-wingers. The fact gets lost that the minimum wage itself and continuing increases in the minimum wage hurt working people.

A couple of things; wages are relative. There are some skilled jobs paying around $15/hr. If the minimum wage goes to $15 then skilled workers making that amount will want a proportional bump. Let’s say just for discussion this first tier new wage becomes $20/hr. Then, those more skilled Than first tier workers will want their bump, say $20/hr. And on and on it goes. Consequently, after wages are adjusted proportional through out the economy, nothing has changed - except U.S. labor has become even less competitive compared to other countries. Oh, almost forgot. Did I mention that many union contracts stipulate corresponding wage adjustments should the minimum wage be raised. So, it goes.....
The biggest thing you will notice if a $15 minimum wage goes into effect is the refrain: “I’d be making $15/hour if I hadn’t lost my job.” If the left thinks $15/hr solves their problems, then surely $100/hr has got to be even better. At what point will they finally admit you can’t force a wage increase over and above someone’s productive worth without market consequences?
Isn’t $15 a bit low for a living wage? Why not $20?
I demand $100,000/hour.
So we can all have year-long vacations.
Makes sense to me. I have perfect logic. I’m an educated liberal.
Doesn’t 15 scam result in fewer full time INSURED workers?
How does this affect the obamashamcare?
Repeal all minimum wage laws.
As to income inequality, ask a liberal how much everybody should make in order for there to be income equality.
Wages tend towards subsistence levels over time.
Under socialist systems wages drops below subsistence levels.
