My .177 air rifle is louder than my .22 rifle. Point the .22 straight up with nothing to echo off & it goes “Psst!”
A compound bow firing an arrow with strings fastened to it might well be undetectable. Tangle the drone & bring it down.

I shot a deer just day before yesterday with my .177 air rifle. From 30 feet it was impossible to miss. The deer ran away. I hope it stays away from wifey’s green beans. She goes into a terrible rant denouncing the deer eating her pride and joy green beans

Tangle the drone & bring it down.Saw a video once of a guy using a 12 ga. to shoot a length of broomstick dragging a line across a river. The line was then used to pull a rope across. IIRC, they simply cut a shell open and dumped the shot out then loaded it and seated the broomstick into the cup.

.22 shorts are subsonic. They won’t set off the shot spotters that triangulate where the shots are fired from.

string some fishing line about 3 ft off the ground around the beans.
The deer don’t like feeling this... something... that they can’t see.

So you capture one with a net, probably damage the rotor system, and keep it.
A good shyster can turn the tables and have you charged with all sorts of goodies, like theft, property damage, public endangerment (the little chopper could have veered off and hit someone) and whatever else the jerk can come up with.
A good leftist judge would take on the case.
The MSM would make that poor cute little chopper to be Cecil The Chopper.
obama would weigh in and take personal revenge against you.
The fully brainwashed low info jury members would convict you.
You lose everything.
You’re better off letting some pervert check out your daughters, as in a good lefty society, perversion is the new norm.

Do they detect 38s and 45 ACP and other subsonic pistol rounds?
To: chrisser
Depends. What this guy did wasn't dangerous in the least. If he used steel heavy shot, "maybe" it could have been slightly dangerous. Light shot has no energy beyond 150ft or so. Worst case is neighbors got sprinkled with tiny shot going so slow it is insignificant. I would have done exactly the same thing if it were my daughters... and the SOB better pray to his God that I never find out who the owner of the thing was.
This is a lesson that I have drilled my sons with. Respecting women and above all, their unforgiving fathers. Legality is low on the list of a man's considerations when it comes to his daughter.

It is not safe to fire a pistol or rifle upwards into the air in the city. A shotgun loaded with birdshot presents no particular problem. A falling pellet is not going to make a hole in someone’s head. A good weapon for eliminating inappropriate quadrotors would be a little 45 Colt handgun loaded with .410. I used to have a little side-by-side snake-eyes version of that. It was very good for little copperheads that one might inadvertantly get too close to.

basically what is done to get line across between ships when doing underway replenishments. Canister with line, instead of the broomstick with line, is sent over with a shotgun.

Should have used a LASER to fry the drone's sensors..... Just sayin..

Bird shot is perfect for shooting int the air in urban environment. It comes down with no force to hurt.

Before long there may be a laser or some other device that can safely disable drones with little trouble. Awww.. beat me to it.. :-)

Even if it is shot relatively straight up?
It's been awhile, but my recollection of physics is that the individual shot pellets will have about the same force coming down at ground level as they had when they left the barrel, negating wind resistance. Granted, you'll likely only get hit with one instead of all of them, but if you happen to be looking up, that one has a good chance of blinding you, I'd think.
