Scott Walker Opposes Gay Marriage, But Supports Same-Sex Couple in His Own Family

When it comes to same-sex marriage, Scott Walker’s politics and his heart don’t always agree.

Though the two-term Republican governor of Wisconsin is strongly opposed to same-sex marriage -- and recently called for a constitutional amendment to reverse the Supreme Court’s decision ruling same sex unions legal in all 50 states -- he told ABC News’ David Muir during an exclusive interview that he does support a married same-sex couple within his own family.

“I love them, so I support them,” Walker said of his wife Tonette’s cousin and her partner. “Love’s gonna be the focus of everything we do with our family and our close friends,” Walker told Muir while seated beside his wife and two sons, who support same-sex marriage, for an interview at the governor’s mansion in Madison, Wisconsin. Walker’s son, Alex, even participated as a witness in the courtroom wedding for Tonette’s cousin, though the governor himself did not attend.

You can love someone without approving of whet they are doing.

My wife and I go to court this afternoon to hear our 15 year old son’s sentence, he is a criminal, guilty and now has to pay the price. We don’t love him any less. (Not his first offence)

Look where the “I personally oppose abortion, but it’s OK for everyone else” has gotten us.

So what should he have done?

[So what should he have done? ]

What’s wrong with saying, “I love my relatives, but cannot support their lifestyles because of my Biblical beliefs?”

I see no conflict between opposing state sanction of gay marriage and loving gay family members.

Fine, but that's not the issue here. If the "support" that Walker is giving them is endorsing and accepting their gay marriage; then to hell with him.

If you loved your gay family members, you’d try to get them help not make them think they are okay.

Jesus used the words “ go and sin no more” on occasion.

I read the article, and I don't see it that way.

BTW I'm for Cruz.

Government has no right creating rights.

Not really wanting to be rude or insulting, but that is the STUPIDEST comment I've seen in a long time. Ever read the Bill of Rights?

“If Scott Walker supports unions or marriages for personal reasons, then I don’t care.”

Let me guess. If Walker supported abortion too, then you wouldn’t care about that either.

“While I personally oppose ___________________, but it’s OK for someone else” is unconservative.

In dealing with human beings, you sometimes have to shut up and maintain the relationship, in order to effectively “get them help” at the opportune time.

Walker is not incorrect on this. I have friends who are illegal aliens. I strongly support forcing all illegal aliens out of the country. My friends know this. My friendship with them does not make it one bit easier for them to stay in the country. I do not hate the individuals. I hate and oppose the system that allows them to be here. At least one of them understands that his presence, while good for him and his family, is very bad for the USA. He says if he were a citizen he would vote to send himself (as the illegal) back to Nicaragua.

Personally, homosexuality gives me the creeps and if one of my cousins were queer and "married" we would probably have no contact at all.

He did...but that’s hardly what is being stated here......I doubt he used words like whore or slut or sodomite. He did, however, use the word hypocrite a heckuva lot.

Let’s get real. ABC evidently doesn’t care how much they lie, because the video with the article doesn’t support the quote in the article itself. The article claims:

““I love them, so I support them,” Walker said of his wife Tonette’s cousin and her partner..”

But that’s not what he said. He said, in response to the question, “But you haven’t changed your stance?”

“No, no, but we love them, you know love’s gonna be the focus of everything we do with our family”

Listen for yourself. It’s at approximately 2:40 of the video.

Note what he did NOT say. He did NOT say “I love them so I support them”. That phrase is NOT uttered by him. It’s a significant difference between that and what he actually did say “No, No, but we love them, you know love’s gonna be the focus of everything we do with our family”.

It’s a blatant insertion of a phrase (”I support them”) by ABC!!! Don’t be a DUPE for the MSM!!

Sheesh, this is FR I’d expect more from the people here!

Just like Jesus did.

I'm not a Scott Walker fan, but I see no conflict between his stance on gay marriage and loving a family member who's gay. That doesn't inherently mean he supports gay marriage. It does however mean it appears he's following Christ's admonition to us all to love one another. We can love the sinner, but still hate the sin.

They didn’t create tights, they recognized the God given rights that are self evident.

Nor do I. Hate the sin, and love the sinner.

I am opposed to same sex marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman. If they want to have a “unity ceremony” that grants them legal status, fine with me, but don’t call it marriage.
