A pair of high school girls has done something Republican members of Congress only talk about: They saved the First Amendment by actually using it. samantha jones fights atheists pledge of allegiance lawsuit
In July 2014the summer before her senior yearSamantha Joness father told her family the American Humanist Association (AHA) was suing the Matawan-Aberdeen (N. J.) School Board on behalf of an anonymous atheist family, Paula Parker reports in the August 2015 issue of Citizen magazine. They claimed reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in schools was unconstitutional and discriminatory because it includes the phrase Under God.
Citizen is published by Focus on the Family. The Jones family joined the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus in fighting the lawsuit and won.
Meanwhile, While Joness case was making its way through the courts, Madison Sutherland was fighting for the right to start a pro-life club at Courtland High School in Spotsylvania, Va., Parker writes. In June 2014, she learned about Students for Life of America (SFLA) from a friend whod started a chapter at a different school, and was eager to do the same.
Perhaps not too surprisingly, school authorities dragged their feet on approving her request, even, at one point, rejecting it, until she got a lawyer, from the Thomas More Society. Then, school administrators, perhaps grudgingly, granted her request.
A good play. Thanks, girls.
Excellent!
There is freedom of speech but you still have to fight for it.
Way to go girls!
Sad that school girls have more patriotism than our elected officials who are hired by us to protect US-
Today's Repubs don't care one bit about the Constitution, their noses are so far up Obama's rear end they couldn't read the 1st Amendment without a light bulb.
The Repub majority in both houses is funding Planned Parenthood's marketing of aborted baby's body parts, and will allow Obama to give our worst enemy Iran access to nuclear weapons to destroy Israel, our most loyal ally.
With a few exceptions here and there, today's typical GOP Senator and congressman has sold his/her loyal but duped voters down the proverbial river.
MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE ONE-term limits across the board
Score one for the good guys! Has anyone ever looked at these atheist web sites? Talk about intolerance and hate. They are some of the most vitriolic sites on the interweb.
“MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE ONE-term limits across the board”.....
maybe we should vet all the politicians BEFORE we elect them to their one term.
maybe that’s why I like Walker. He’s the most vetted of the bunch. He’s so vetted he’s been slandered.
There is no freedom of speech unless you use it...........
