Obama kicked off the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles on Saturday, welcoming thousands of intellectually disabled athletes.
"To all of our athletes, I just want you to know that all those people won't just be cheering for you, they're going to be learning from you," the first lady told the cheering crowd during the opening ceremony. "You're filling us with so much hope. And you're uniting us in a way that nothing else can."

Special Olympics, IIRC, was started by a member of the KENNEDY family, back when some Democrats STILL cared about unborn children, the sanctity of life, and deeply held Judeo-Christian morals.
Today, not so much.
The people who SO ought to be ashamed of bringing in such a pro-infanticide individual to kick off their games.
the headline could be read and interpreted in a number of less than entirely polite ways......

I guess I should give her credit for not shaming them for the burden they've placed on society.

Can you imagine if a Republican had made a crack about the Special Olympics as Obama did? Geez, his record on disabled issues would be examined, any votes to cut or restrict funding for handicapped programs would be highlighted, and there would be talk that he hated disabled people.

I remember that snide remark so well, as some of my music students also participated in the Special Olympics.

As much as I dislike the Kennedys I give them credit for starting the Special Olympics. Even liberal reckless womanizer amoral people can still do something which has redeeming social value.
The Kennedy "Men" (using that term loosely) had nothing to do with it.
