Examiner: But you wouldn't eliminate the EPA altogether?
Walker: Well, I'd essentially take their responsibilities and send them back to the states.

If you leave the EPA as a shell, the commies will resuscitate it first chance they get.
Same goes for the Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, etc.

Shifting power back to the states gets my attention.

The federal government should be a shell of its current self.

I like Walker but this was a good opportunity to lay out some details. Anyone can say "we'll look at that" or "I'll have a plan for that later". Maybe it's politically expedient to demur until after the election, but that's what got us into the mess we are now.

I'm disappointed he couldn't even think of one federal agency worth eliminating. Surely in that monster mess that is the fed, he could come up with one concrete target to talk about.

No kidding...even La Raza Rick Perry could come up with TWO.

OK so my take from this is that Walker has no plan to reduce the size of government. He just wants to shift it to the states. No reductions in spending. No reductions in regulation or oversight. Just a mild difference on where it's coming from.

And his idea of reaching out to Congress day one is just plain silly. He got his agenda through in Wisconsin because he had a Republican majority in the legislature and no filibuster. He will likely have a Republican majority in Congress but the Democrats will try and block everything he sets out to do.

I’m a Walker guy with Cruz #2 on mine.

Either way the country would be better served.

When Reagan was elected I remember thinking that people owning homes in the DC area should consider selling before the government programs started getting cut. Obviously, I was really, really, wrong.

Today, Walker’s claim that six of the 10 richest counties in the country surround DC illustrates well how the federal government continues to grow.

If he’s elected President, we’ll know he kept his word if those six counties are no longer on that list a decade from now. We need a wholesale reduction of government jobs in DC. We need exactly what he’s talking about doing, and he’s done it already in both Wisconsin and as Milwaukee County Exec before that.

The Milw Co public employee count was down 20% on his watch, I believe, and that was in spite of having to work with a Democrat-dominated board who vetoed many of his budgets. Still he got it done. With a GOP-dominated Congress, he’d have a field day cutting the federal budget and moving responsibilities back to the states.

And he’s already on record saying that the filibuster rule should be dispensed with, I believe. I’m sure that as Governor he realized how impossible it would have been to get anything serious accomplished if that rule was in place in the state legislature.

Not even Jesus could stop the liberals from trying to re-create their leviathan. That is the job of the voters.

>>I’m disappointed he couldn’t even think of one federal agency worth eliminating.<<

All that would accomplish is giving his opponents, even his GOP opponents, a target to fire at. He really is smarter than that.

He stays on message and his message is to cut the power of the federal government. That would seem to be the central concern of most of the participants on this board as well, along with border control of course.

Read the article again. He just turned every question back to the topic of cutting federal involvement in our lives. It got boring, but he didn’t deviate. Say it often enough and long enough and people finally figure out that’s really what he means to do.
