For the GOP, Donald Trump may be evil incarnate — literally
The Week ^ | 07/25/2015 | James Poulos

What if a candidate for president were evil?

I'm not talking about the way "evil" is thrown around as an insult. I'm talking about real evil, the kind you find in the Bible. Chuckle if you must, but Donald Trump's opponents are beginning to make the case that he is truly evil. And the deeper you look, the more you see that it's no laughing matter.

The prevailing wisdom says Trump is riding high because the Republican base is raising a middle finger — once again — to the establishment. But the prevailing wisdom also says the base is dominated by Christian conservatives. That's a paradox in the making.

Certainly, just because you're Christian doesn't mean you're a wimp when it comes to politics. You can stand up and cheer, or grimly nod along, when someone — anyone — cuts through today's tightly scripted Beltway blather with random rants and oh-no-he-didn't jabs.

But it's becoming clear that Trump's candidacy asks Christians to go much further than that — down the road of perdition, if Trump's enemies are to be believed.

It all started when Trump went on record describing an attitude toward sin that would make the average churchgoer flinch. At the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, Frank Luntz asked Trump to share with the audience whether he'd ever asked God for forgiveness.

"I don't think so," said Trump. “I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."

He went on. "When I drink my little wine — which is about the only wine I drink — and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness,

The ruling class, GOP and Dem alike, have similar beliefs about the salience of religious belief. Trump is simply open about this attitude. The openness is refreshing.

Taking a stance of wanting immigration laws enforced and deporting dangerous illegal aliens is evil?

I don’t believe it matters much to them. Way too many Christians stayed home and didn’t vote against the evil obama.

The dysfunction and desperation of the puppet masters is beyond anything that MAD Magazine in the old days could've made up.

This week they've declared that Trump is pure evil. As opposed to a government that can't or won't stop ISIS and seems to think it's okay for Planned Parenthood to laugh about selling body parts from abortions.

There's a real good reason for the undecided to choose Trump. It'll be great entertainment when he's in the WH for four years.

I don’t think it’s that way. Bad judgment, bad manners, intemperate, ineffective at making the conservative case, attention-seeking, and unprepared by past experience for the highest level government job in the USA. Now, I know that won’t fly with those who like him, but it’s more what the critics are saying.

“Dirt’s a funny thing,’ the Boss said. ‘Come to think of it, there ain’t a thing but dirt on this green God’s
globe except what’s under water, and that’s dirt too. It’s dirt makes the grass grow. A diamond ain’t a thing
in the world but a piece of dirt that got awful hot. And God-a-Mighty picked up a handful of dirt and blew on it
and made you and me and George Washington and mankind blessed in faculty and apprehension. It all depends on
what you do with the dirt. That right?”

The Week was founded in the United Kingdom by Jolyon Connell (formerly of the right-of-centre Sunday Telegraph) in 1995. In April 2001, the magazine began publishing an American edition; an Australian edition followed in October 2008. Dennis Publishing publishes the UK edition and, until 2012, the Australian edition. The Week Publications publishes the US edition. In addition to news and opinion, the magazine also covers science, business and the arts. This weekly news magazine is known for a wide focus that incorporates current events, news, health, media, science, arts, and more into an easily digestible format. In September 2007, the magazine’s U.S. edition launched a daily website. While the daily website carries the mission of the print magazine to the internet, it also publishes original commentary from writers including David Frum, Robert Shrum, Will Wilkinson, Daniel Larison, and Brad DeLong.

Liberals are always ten to fifteen years behind. When we went in to try to liberate Iraq with a small, high-technology-aided, all-volunteer military, the left started re-fighting the VietNam war as if there were still a draft snatching up hundreds of thousands to fight a guerilla war by sneaking through the jungle in small columns with yesterday’s machine guns. Now, people are wondering why we don’t go in to wipe out ISIS and its atrocities; but when we did go in under Bush/Blair, liberals wailed and screamed, and then applauded as Obama not only dismantled all gains, but also armed our enemies.

Now, any Republican candidate is going to be vilified as the exact same evils that Obama has consistently demonstrated. Is he a believing Christian communicant? Does he use taxpayer money to take lavish vacations? Does he tell the truth? Is he power-mad? Does he make excessive executive decisions without Congress? Is he using the IRS to target enemies? Has he been transparent? All his actions will be projected onto Trump or any other Republican candidate.

The founding fathers (and mothers) weren’t “sowing discord” prior to the American Revolution? Isn’t that how a revolution begins?

Why is the article so full of Rick Perry quotes?

Surprises Trump mentioned communion. Still don’t trust him.

Martin Luther said, "I'd rather be ruled by a competent Turk, than an incompetent Christian."

Donald Trump may be as bad as most of the folks in Washington. However, if the GOP really wants him to go away, they might start listening to what he's saying and act on it...like Ted Cruz is doing.

The Week is a skinny little rag published by the New York Times. It has no credibility when attacking Republicans.
