White House defends sanctuary cities, threatens to veto crackdown bill

Says legalization is best way to deal with criminals

The White House vowed Thursday to veto a bill to punish sanctuary cities, instead calling on Congress to legalize illegal immigrants as the way to solve the problem of criminals who shouldn’t be on the streets.

The threat came just hours before the House was expected to pass a bill that would withhold money from states or localities that don’t abide by a federal law that requires them to cooperate when federal immigration authorities request help identifying illegal immigrants.

But the White House Office of Management and Budget said that “threatens the civil rights of all Americans.”

Sanctuary cities have become a target in the immigration debate after the July 1 murder of Kathryn Steinle, who was walking Pier 14 in San Francisco with her father when she was shot. The man implicated in the murder was deported five times before and had an extensive felony record, but had been released by San Francisco, rather than turned over to federal authorities for deportation, under its sanctuary policy.

Ya know, this might work out...

Because when it comes time to create CONSERVATIVE sanctuary cities, we can use this veto to our advantage!

legalize illegal immigrants as the way to solve the problem of criminals who shouldn't be on the streets.

Oh, OK, I get it. In order to stop the amount of murders increasing, we'll just rename "murder", call it "Yahtzee!"

"...and in Chicago this weekend, three unrelated, triple Yahtzees occurred with a 2 miles radius of 0bama's neighborhood..."

So now Federal funds are a civil right?

Oh yeah, he’s now going to legalize all those criminals, so the next time they murder/rape/maim, at least they won’t be here illegally! I weep for what this Marxist and his minions have done to my beloved country.

So, when the law is vetoed, with the 'pubs actually DO something? Or will they say "yeah....we have a CAMPAIGN ISSUE without anything changing".

The HOR still controls the budget. Why do sanctuary cities get any federal money? Why didn't any of the "constitutional conservatives" do something about the issue before Trump highlighted it?

It's got to be something in the air in DC. It really should take longer to corrupt those we send there than it does.

Yep. And even if they do a new law, he won’t pay attention even if his veto is overridden, so it’s a win-win for him.

Well if our ‘spineless sissies’ that we have elected to run OUR GOVERNMENT would just table the bill for later then obuma couldn’t do anything about it....he has a Judge that has told him NO and if he breaks that ruling, he is as subject to ‘breaking a Judges ruling’ as we are....oh yeah, I forgot, he a muslim king and can do anything he wants...

Why does President Obama not want to protect American children. He is a father, his girls won’t always have secret service protection. They will be at risk as other American children are in these cities, counties or states. Why won’t he protect American children?????

Yep, Bambam would be so proud of his legacy by eliminating murder and it sounds like something he’d actually do.

The White House is dismissing efforts to crack down on “sanctuary cities” and the administration blames Republicans for failing to pass an immigration bill.

“The irony that I have noted in this situation, that many of these pieces of legislation were written and are supported by Republicans who oppose comprehensive immigration reform,” Press Secretary Josh Earnest said. “And you heard me say on countless occasions over the fall, that blocking comprehensive immigration reform would perpetuate a system that is the closest thing we have to amnesty.

“It sounds like a lot of Republicans now have taken that view. They understand that the situation — that the system that they chose to perpetuate, actually does inhibit our ability to most effectively implement the law in a way that keeps our community safe.”

Earnest said that’s why the president took the executive actions on immigration, “to focus our limited law enforcement resources on those individuals who do pose a threat to public safety.”

He noted the immigration bill that passed the Senate two years ago would have included record funding for border security, ramped up interior enforcement and increased penalties for repeat violators.

“These are the kinds of enforcement provisions that were included in the law that Republicans blocked. So, when they raise concerns about how effectively our immigration system is working to keep the community safe, they have no one to blame but themselves.”

As for the sanctuary cities bills that would withhold funding?

“We don’t take those legislative proposals particularly seriously,” Earnest said.

Then make it veto proof.

Surely 2/3 of lawmakers don’t support the torture and murder of American citizens by their new manufactured, imported and preferred voting base.

Or do they?
