I saw a sign, “no trespassing, property of the United States Government”

I wondered out loud, who is the United States Government if not me?

Disabled veterans , older folks, etc. should not be kept off public land as historical use often goes to the 1800s.

You are, of course, 100% correct in this assumption, but this also leads me to look at other issues, such as our "private property" rights. Even when you own a piece of land, you still pay taxes every year, regardless of mortgage status, and should you decide to build or develop "your" property, you must still ask permission from the government, so in all reality, there are no longer ANY property rights, be they private or public. It all belongs to the King.

Oh, and try letting your grass grow a couple inches higher than the neighbors. It will only be a matter of time before a rep with the County, along with a jackboot, shows up to tell you to mow your lawn. And God forbid you ask them if they pay the mortgage or taxes on the place - the jackboot thug WILL put you in handcuffs and harass you as much as possible into submission. Just one reason I know longer have any respect for jackboot pigs.

RS 2477 - the problem locally is that the Bureau of Land Mismanagement says, "We know we can't close that road because of RS2477, but we're going to close it anyhow. Sue us." At present, Mesa County can't quite exactly answer where they will come up with the $$$ to sue the BLM.

I was at that meeting! Packed house - MANY folks there to oppose any and all closures. There were a few sad sacks who support closure - they were all booed by the audience. Standing room only in the Commissioner’s hearing room.

I suspect that it is an old road used for decades if not centuries.

There are lots of huge parcels of federal land in the Rocky Mountain criss-crossed by old logging and mining roads and trails.

For many years these trails were open to motorized vehicles, such as ATVs, snowmobiles and sometimes full-sized vehicles.

Over the past couple decades more and more of these trails are being closed to anything with a motor. If you can ride a bike or own a horse, good for you. Otherwise you hike, which some people can’t and which others just don’t care for.

I don’t much care for ATVs or road hunters in the hills either. But the fact is more and more of our “public lands” are accessible only by a smaller and smaller public.
