With just two weeks to go before Fox News hosts the first Republican presidential debate of the 2016 cycle, real estate mogul Donald Trump looks increasingly well-positioned to claim center stage.
A new Morning Consult poll finds Trump leading the Republican field with 22 percent of the vote, well ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who clocks in with 15 percent, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, in third place with 12 percent.
No other Republican breaks into double digits. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson receives 8 percent of the vote, with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 7 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 6 percent and Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) at 5 percent. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) are tied at 4 percent apiece.
The Morning Consult survey, conducted July 17 through July 20 among 1,978 registered voters, includes a subsample of 754 self-identified Republican and Republican-leaning voters who say they will participate in the partys presidential nominating contest, for a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
There is no evidence that Trumps numbers have slumped after comments he made questioning Sen. John McCains (R-Ariz.) war record. Though most of the rest of the Republican field and even the Republican National Committee loudly criticized Trump after he made the comments on Saturday morning at an event in Iowa, voters interviewed afterward werent any less likely to say they support him.
In fact, Trump has gained ground since a Morning Consult poll earlier this month, when he trailed Bush by a 19 percent to 17 percent margin. This week Trump is the second choice of 12 percent of voters, behind Bushs 18 percent.
But both this weeks and last weeks polls suggest Trumps ceiling is lower than other candidates. Republican voters have a broadly favorable impression of candidates running for their partys nomination; 63 percent of self-described Republicans have a favorable view of Bush, while 27 percent see him unfavorably, for example.
Whether people realize it or not Trump has assumed the position of interim CEO of USA, Inc. and has gone to work already fixing some of the big problems like illegal immigration and the veterans plight.
The other candidates have done absolutely nothing. He has placed himself in charge and he is doing what he would do as permanent CEO. So obvious.
More than 20% in a field of 16 is a strong showing for a candidate.
I really doubt that Trump will fall in the polls at all and actually might rise! Many Republicans are very angry at McCain and his puppet(s) so will take anything that is said in the media with a large grain of salt. That means that most Republican voters hate McCain and his media ways along with their hatred of the media in general...so,
In the long run, Trump’s rating will go up and along with the media, including Fox News, he will continue to lead much to their dismay and understanding...ha..such is life to these inside the beltway idiots anyway.
There are so few even on Fox News (the supposedly Conservative news - so to speak) that understand the way this election is going on and why Trump has been leading.
That just means that the MSM, including Fox have no idea about how the electorate is feeling or for that matter have any idea about what they are about...geez! Just how much more can the media get out of touch with the real citizens!
Actually, I am enjoying every minute of their stupid responses regarding Trump...heh!
So long as Trump and Cruz are on the stage, I don’t care what Fox News tries to do.
Brit, Kraut and Georgie Will are deeply saddened that the Rodeo Clown is still leading.
Pray America is waking
Well, yes, you're right. With the possible exception of Cruz, all the other GOP candidates are various flavors of marshmallow. I don't want a marshmallow as the next president. I want a GOP dragon. And from what I can see thus far, that's Trump.
Donald Trump...
This guy has the potential to do more good for the nation having never been elected, than the last four Democrat presidents have in 7 terms in office.
Let that sink in...
Audie Murphy was never captured.
Ha...just wait till he takes on the Iranians....starting with Valerie Jarrett and Huma Abedin....
For those who assume Trump is running to help Hillary, read these comments made by Trump in an interview on TV:
Hillary: Fences dont work.
Trump: Well, you sure seemed to think that the fence around our embassy in Libya would work just fine. In fact, you had so much faith in it that you removed all the Marine personnel guarding the place, even though Ambassador Stevens was literally begging you not to up to point were he was murdered. Seems like you havent learned anything at all.
You can eat marshmallows and they don’t tax or regulate you making them more valuable to society then the candidates.
Those who think Trump will soon drop out, I dont think he will drop out if his poll numbers stay as high as now. He has no reason to drop out so long he stays in 1st or 2nd place. He will never run out of money to keep running, which is the main reason candidates drop out.
Trump is shining a light on issues that have been buried for years. He attacks the worthless, feckless, spineless, beholden, politicians and can do so because no one owns him. Obama attacks who? Americans and upholds the scum of the earth as heroes. It’s just sickening.
Benghazi! It sounds to me like Trump reads and studies issues a lot more than we give him credit for.
and i think he earned all his medals. McCain got 28 for 20 hrs work. according to some sources. prison was one thing you can’t really mess with. I think he screwed up a lot while flying planes. screwed up in public office as well. I don’t mind someone calling him a screw up. he’s earned it.
Maybe he is doing his prep right here on FR.
Rush does.
Rush does.
Wouldn't surprise me...
