In a nutshell, right here is the problem. It is not anyone’s job but your own to keep yourself safe.

Don’t you think Target should have a sign that says,
“Absolutely No Crazy Stabbers Allowed Entry.”
Well, now that depends. If the store has a "no guns allowed" policy, then I'd argue that they do have a duty to protect shoppers. Otherwise, not so much.
Maybe there wasn’t a disclaimer posted expressly stating, “Not responsible for shoppers stabbed by random maniacs who run into store.”
