Actually, lots of them do want to live among white people. We have lots of people move to the Appalachian hills to get away from the crime-ridden cities.
It is far better to live in a trailer park than a housing project.

That reminds me of the observations they made during the making of the original "Planet of the Apes" movie where during breaks and mealtimes, the actors who were dressed as chimpanzees tended to flock to those dressed similar. The same was true with those dressed as orangutangs and gorillas.
