Look, McCain served. McCain was a POW. I don’t think that he should ever have to apologize about that. But McCain also started this verbal war with Trump, so I am not going to let him hide behind his war record.

Ben Carson. I guess the journalist is sorry he dragged Cardon out of his TV room, yawn, for comment A little enthusiasm for what's right and wrong there, doc. It's all the rage. Turn the channel to the news Oy vey noun a person who is admired for bravery in war ⇒ He was a war hero, an outstandingly brave and effective fighter pilot

Ahh well, there's the Trump implosion. He'll never gain any votes by attacking McCain or the Vietnam war, and with the publication of Trump's deferments during the Vietnam war, even more voters in the US will flee away from him at high speed.

I honestly don't get what the media's doing, it is like they are going all stops out trying to get him votes from every quarter of the political spectrum. ‘Oooh, this story will tick off the conservatives!’ Umm, no, we cringed and caved and voted for McCain because he was only slightly better than Obama, maybe, for SCOTUS picks. We did the same for Romney (even knowing he was probably going to be worse than Obama for SCOTUS picks.)

“It depends on your definition of a war hero,” Carson said.

He's right, and the definition of war hero was changed for Vietnam because reporting on the war was so negative and dishonest that the true combat heroes of that war never got the attention and publicicity they should have.

So, the country had a big celebration when the POWs were returned from North Vietnam and many began to view them as heroes.

Can anyone name POW war heroes from WWII or WWI or Korea? But those who know some history could name some combat war heroes, especially from WWI and WWII.

What Trump said is totally true, but not a wise thing to say.

Carson is dead on. Just because you serve, you are not a “hero”. In our world today everyone is a hero. Firemen, police etc. But they really aren’t. That is what they signed up for. McCain was never a hero.

Trump is providing a lot of entertainment with his run. He is saying a lot of things and saying them very loud. Do I see him being the pick? No, its Bush vs Clinton, that’s where all the big money is going to be. Do you mater? No, you are all like Trump, disgusted by everything that has occurred over the years, and still unable to get DC to change. We are all being manipulated by the hidden powers to be via strong media control. Big Brother and Animal Farm are already here, isn’t that already obvious? (Reht.)

The truth of what REALLY happened with John “Songbird” McCain in Hanoi is not what the American people were told at that lie-filled RNC tribute in 2008.

When Asked If McCain Is a War Hero: ‘Depends on Your Definition’
I still do not understand how being captured by the enemy makes someone a hero.
Perhaps one's behavior while being held captive can be seen as heroic ... but I don't think that includes McCain.
IIRC, he got special treatment by the enemy in return for ... no one knows.

***It depends on your definition of a war hero**

There is a large measure of truth in that statement.

To a lot of folks anyone who has worn the uniform is a hero.
To some it is about a medal worn on the chest or hung around the neck.

All I know is that the heroes I know don’t brag about being heroes.

Funny how the media is always rushing to Republicans and asking them to denounce other Republicans but I haven’t heard one member of the press ask ANY Democrat what they thought of Planned Parenthood being caught on tape selling BABY ORGANS to the highest bidder

What is more important, McCain being a POW or McCain's treatment of POWs as soon as he got his hands on a little political power?

The War Secrets Sen. John McCain Hides
Former POW Fights Public Access to POW/MIA Files - Sydney Schanberg

Hurdles and limitations

Finally, in addition to these hurdles and limitations, the McCain act does not specifically order the declassification of the information. Further, it provides the Defense Department with other justifications for withholding documents. One such clause says that if the information “may compromise the safety of any United States personnel … who remain not accounted for but who may still be alive in captivity, then the Secretary [of Defense] may withhold that record or other information from the disclosure otherwise required by this section.”

Boiled down, the preceding paragraph means that the Defense Department is not obligated to tell the public about prisoners believed alive in captivity and what efforts are being made to rescue them. It only has to notify the White House and the intelligence committees in the Senate and House. The committees are forbidden under law from releasing such information.

McCain goes further to hurt future POWs...

Another bill gutted in 1996

And then there is the Missing Service Personnel Act, which McCain succeeded in gutting in 1996. A year before, the act had been strengthened, with bipartisan support, to compel the Pentagon to deploy more resources with greater speed to locate and rescue missing men. The measure imposed strict reporting requirements.

McCain amended the heart out of the statute. For example, the 1995 version required a unit commander to report to his theater commander within two days that a person was missing and describe what rescue and recovery efforts were underway. The McCain amendments allowed 10 days to pass before a report had to be made.

Anyone serving in the military deserve respect, those injure, tortured, etc., definitely deserve respect. Any question of this legitimacy, especially for political purposes is wrong. That said, basing your career on and promoting yourself because of this is, well can be, over the top, unnecessary, and just wrong. Whether McCain has or not is open to discussion. Carson and Trump are wrong in questioning or diminishing McCain’s service. How to challenge him politically when he wraps himself in the flag is a challenge so I give pass to everyone on this topic.

McCain’s military record- crashing 5 American planes (a reverse ace), starting the fire on the Forrestal (which killed dozens of Sailors), and getting the crap kicked out of him by democrats in Hanoi.

If you are going to use your hero status to destroy the country which you served, I don’t think you should remain on the list of heroes.

McCain has been going out of his way to destroy American sovereignty and the constitution since he used his hero status to gain a seat in the Senate.

He deserves every bit of ridicule he gets.

I’ve met a few heroes in my time. I cannot think of a single one who wore a sign around his neck that stated, “look at me, I’m a HERO.”

On the contrary, I cannot think of a single one who didn’t have a very humble attitude: “I was just doing my job” or “I had to do what I had to do...anybody else would’ve done the same thing.”

Contrast that attitude with the attitude of most politicians with the “war hero” reputation. Including McLame.
