Fully agreed. In 1994 the best action for the free market was to do nothing IMHO. Now it would take active steps to get us back to one.

There actually is a pretty easy way to bring it back. That would be pay-by-means walk in clinics, where everyone had to pay some minimum amount. Those who wanted to use the clinics but be insured could get private insurance, either through the clinic or on their own. Those who pay their own bills would be given a list of options and their prices.

Some drug stores are already set up for this.

Prices would go down and lower-cost options would become more available if people weren't subsidized to get the most expensive stuff.

The best way to solve a problem is keep it simple.
