GM to keep sponsoring Kid Rock concerts, discuss flag issue

DETROIT (AP) - General Motors says it will continue sponsoring Kid Rock's summer tour despite a Detroit activist group's request that the automaker cut financial ties with the musician if he displays a Confederate flag during performances.

The National Action Network and representatives from GM's Chevrolet brand will meet this week.

Kid Rock, who was born Robert Ritchie, has been criticized in the past for displaying the flag on stage.

South Carolina removed the flag from its Statehouse weeks after the shooting deaths of nine people at a historically black church. The man charged in the shooting is shown in pictures with the flag.

GM spokesman Patrick Morrissey says only the American flag has been on stage during Kid Rock's summer concert tour. . .

Tom Petty has pussed out. He apologizes for the “Southern Accents” album, which was pretty much his last great record.

GM could use a little good pro-American ink right now. They need to stay with Kid Rock and tell the lardass "activists" to go .....

Go Kid Rock. This is still America! You do what you want to do!

Well since most of Lynyrd Skynyrd that began using the flag are deceased, I wouldn’t sweat their opinion too much.
I know Johnny, is Ronnie’s little brother, but who else is playing? Gary Rossington, maybe?

Sorry for younger folks. I saw the original group in ‘79, and I saw the group right after, “Rossington-Collins Band, and I decided that Lynyrd Skynyrd was a fond memory after that.

Same thing for “The Marshall Tucker Band”. Founded by 3 brothers, Tommy, Toy, and Timmy Caldwell, all dead, but someone is out there touring under the name. Wouldn’t waste the time or money.

Holy crap.

Embalm them (except for Keith Richards), stand them up like mannequins, and play the “Sticky Fingers” album really loud?

I can’t imagine.

I think the Beatles got it right in ‘69. F*** it, were through, and walk away.

You and I think too much alike!! LMAO

Keith’s been embalmed since the late 60’s.

No matter how much “mischief” I got into in my youth, I always figured if I didn’t look as bad as Keith, I was still OK.

[Tom Petty has pussed out. He apologizes for the “Southern Accents” album, which was pretty much his last great record.]

Thanks for the link. He doesn't need to apologize to anybody for anything. I wish he had just kept quiet. You don't see Martin Sheen apologizing for portraying Robert Lee in “Gettysburg” even after WashPost panned him. What's interesting is what the liberal Post reporter says about the real Lee:

“Martin Sheen's woolly-headed performance as Robert E. Lee conveys little of the character, charisma or aura of infallibility that made the legendary general the closest thing to a universal hero among the generals of the Civil War. Instead he emerges at film's end as a kind of crazed religious mystic: a Confederate Jim Jones invoking his legions to bullets instead of poisoned Kool Aid for no more clearly discernible reason. . .”

On the news tonight they said Kid Rock hasn't used the Confederate flag in his concerts for at least 5 years. Yet the leader of the NAACP in Detroit is calling for GM to stop sponsoring him unless he stops using the Confederate flag in his concerts.

This is the lunacy of the left.

So all the PC "not sees" had to do was keep their collective mouths shut and the Confederate flag would've faded away into history, but NOOOO....

Interesting. A government owned company sponsoring Kid Rock. I wonder how many people stopped buying GM when they took the bail out money? I know I’ll never buy a GM product again.

And really? How many people complained about the flag? 2? 3? I doubt his music draws massive crowd of Obama’s sons and Sharpton’s shake down goons. And if there ARE then they are fans of the music and the flag is part of the show.

BUT, give a liberal a little bit of power and they will never stop. Never never never.
