As a retired Navy officer I feel somebody who abuses his rank should be slapped down hard, but consider this; he was not convicted of rape of any kind, so legally he is not a pedophile. Selling child pornography is a nasty way to be remembered, but is not treason nor violent. The man is crazy. Five years at hard labor, loss of pension and those hard-won gold wings should be enough of a deterrent, for a first-time offender. Got to believe the penalty was so stiff because he’s a white male.

Maybe the extreme sentence was over him trying to contact the Chinese embassy to pass on secrets.
Man, was this the U.S. Navy you served in? I used to read the back page of the base newspaper (everyone’s favorite page) and see Marines sentenced to prison for 10-15 years for crimes way way less worse than child pornography.
