WTF???

He caused his own death? He got murdered by trigger happy cops. There are WAY too many of them on the streets now and they need dealt with.

Apparently you MISSED the un-armed part of this article or you left out your sarc tag. Just remember, adam henry’s like these two shooters could very well get involved in your life someday. Let’s pray the cops made it home safely, shall we?

The police were responding to what they were incorrectly told was a robbery and did not know if weapons were involved.

If the suspect who went for his pocket and waist had a gun on him, and the officers failed to shoot him, he could have drawn and killed one or more officers with that gun.

Put yourself in their shoes. Why does this guy keep dropping his hands and reaching for his waist area? He has 4 officers pointing guns at him and yelling at him to keep his hands up, yet he keeps lowering them to his waist. That is crazy behavior and suggests that he might well have a gun.

Would you bet your life and the lives of your partners that he is unarmed?

I think what happened is the cops had decided to shoot and followed through even though the situation had changed moments before they fired.

No good deed goes unpunished.

I notice in the article that they called both of these people... ‘men’. They were riding bicycles.

Shouldn’t they be called ‘teens’ or would the media think that might mislead the public into believing they were black ?

Why does this guy keep dropping his hands and reaching for his waist area?

Well, why did he if he was unarmed? I'm not implying he was armed; just puzzled by his moves.

Shoot first. Let the taxpayers pay for it latter.

I agree that his moves were puzzling. It made no sense that he kept dropping his hands to his waist.

Maybe a language barrier? But, then again, isn’t 4 cops pointing guns at you and yelling at you pretty much the international symbol for “Keep your hands up or we’ll blow your effin brains out?”

This story is a sad tragedy. If only he’d kept his hands in the air...

But, anyone could become confused and nervous in the heat of the moment and lower his hands. These days, it might be a good idea to think twice (or three or four times) before calling 911. The situation can escalate so quickly.

It was tragic that he died and I could see someone getting confused and lowering hands, but this guy did it 4 times. Very odd and sad.

Just read that the toxicology report came back positive for alcohol and methamphetamines. That probably explains why he behaved so erratically.

I hope they enjoy prison...

If you read the article it states Prosecutors cleared the officers of any wrongdoing and they are back on the job.

I read somewhere, too, that they all had been drinking.

I understand the police POV in this case, but it’s still sad.

They did not see him pull any weapon. He was basically shot to death because he didn't strictly follow their commands to keep his hand up. It turns out he was drunk.

I repeat, they did not see him pull any weapon.

Put yourself in their shoes. Why does this guy keep dropping his hands and reaching for his waist area? He has 4 officers pointing guns at him and yelling at him to keep his hands up, yet he keeps lowering them to his waist. That is crazy behavior and suggests that he might well have a gun.

I try to put myself in their place and even taking into account his somewhat erratic, drunken behavior, I still cannot see why they shot him, other than that they could. He looked like he was pleading with them. The first time I watched the video, NOTHING he did suggested to me that he had a gun, or was pulling it out or was about to attempt to shoot them or attack them. Nothing in his behavior threatened or hurt anyone.

Unlike the Michael Brown shooting, imo, the cops in this instance were trigger jumpy and they shot him to death because he did not strictly obey their commands.

They should be charged, at the most, with manslaughter. I'm sorry, the fact that they were misinformed as to the nature of the call is no excuse for their shooting this man to death.

Cordially,

I learned, not through wisdom, but through painful personal experience to NEVER call 911 unless I want someone arrested or shot.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope no one was hurt in that situation.

I would keep my hands up if Mexican cops were yelling “Manos arriba!” And I don’t understand a lot of Spanish.

Thank you. In our case, only a completely idiotic arrest of a mentally ill family member, and the attendant difficulties and expense of arrest. Thank goodness no one was shot to death.

I will say that the county police department where I live within a few years put in place a specially trained unit to deal with mentally ill people in a better way, which is a good thing. I think there were enough instances like ours to make it dawn on them that they needed to handle similar types of situations in a different manner.

Cops don’t have x-ray specs or mind reading technology. They had to assume he did have a gun in his waistband.

Even if we assume he was pleading with them. that is a common ploy. “Officer, you don’t understand, let me explain...grabs gun from waistband...bang..bang...bang!”

If the cops wait to confirm a suspect has a gun they could DIE. That is why it is essential to keep your hands up and away from areas where weapons could be concealed.

Oh, the drama! The police officers had their guns drawn and aimed. Where I'm from, the aimee is done to a delicate turn, whether or not he "grabs gun from waistband".

Plus, the waistband idjits don't practice a whole lot, I imagine. LOL! :)

Well, the family has got 4.7 million reasons the police were wrong in this matter, no matter what the official fog machine pumps out.

If I was a local taxpeasant there, I'd be putting my house on the market.

People need to get more mobile, to evade the consequences of their local incompetent badged buffoons not practising enough, and over-reacting from poor communications.
