Global Warming Is Killing Bumblebees, Study Claims
Apex Tribune ^ | July 14, 2015 | Jenna Lewis

Posted on 07/14/2015 4:17:19 AM PDT by Zakeet

A new research carried out by scientists at the Universities of Ottawa and Calgary claims that global warming is killing bumblebees. The climate change is affecting the habitats of the bumblebees and making them shrink in size. The bumblebees in Europe and North America are at risk of disappearing.

Researchers have said that other species may adapt to the change in climate to a certain level and can expand their homes, but the conditions in the climate change didn’t allow the bumblebees to expand their homes as well.

... and just last week we had this: Is a mini ICE AGE on the way? Scientists warn the sun will 'go to sleep' in 2030 and could cause temperatures to plummet.

Not sure which radical nut group to believe any more ... but either way, we need to ban SUV's and enact a carbon tax before it's too late!

Lies and more lies. Commercial bee keepers are doing just fine.

When I was a kid a sizable number of the local farms kept hives. These days its far less common.

People who worry about “colony collapse” should take up beekeeping.

Ironic this post is just above one on the coming ice age.

The earth is 1.3 million times smaller than the sun. All of our SUV’s and gas used are millions of times smaller than the Earth. To think we’re affecting the Earth is the ultimate Hubris. A flea probably thinks he controls the cat.

From the article. Yes it says "vice" instead of "vise."

Jeremy Herr from the University of Ottawa and the lead author of the study said that we should imagine a vice, and in the middle of that vice the bumblebee habitat. As the climate changes and warms up, the bumblebees are being crushed by the climate vice as it compresses their homes. The result of this is the rapid decline of the pollinators on every continent. These effects are not the causes of habitat loss or pesticides. It seems that it’s simply too warm for the bees.

Bumble bees are not honey bees and it’s suburbanization that’s affecting their nesting areas as dead trees are cut down.

Look up ‘solitary bees’ for some information on that type of bee.

This is preposterous.

As always, the “global warming” narrative depends on predictions of what **might** happen as “global warming” continues, while it is amazingly devoid of any hard data.

Meanwhile, a large number of bona-fide scientific observations are blamed on “global warming”, when there is no plausible mechanism by which a temperature difference of a degree or two could cause the observed process. It is a form of scientific laziness: observing, for example, the collapse of 50% of the beehives in an area and blaming it on global warming saves the scientists from the effort of actually collecting dead bees and samples from the hives to analyze for what *did* cause the bees to die.

BTW, bumblebees are not honeybees. Bumblebees are the big furry black bees that have a yellow patch on their back. I have a few in my yard. We plant celosias to attract them so my son can watch them fly around.

The story is about Bumblebees not Honeybees.
Unlike honeybees who have large hives, bumblebees live in tiny hives of about 50 workers and a queen. Because these hives are so small, they aren’t suitable for commercial exploitation. Still, they suffer from the same problems as the honeybees, i.e., colony collapse syndrome and susceptibility to pesticides and other problems.

Beat me to it. Bumblebees are not Honeybees. Is the author ignorant or clouding the issue?

Good idea. The problem with all these media stories is that they’re essentially frauds. They’re taking advantage of scientifically ignorant people (many of whom were taught to be idiots and illogical via government schools). How is that different than the sellers of snake oil? These articles aren’t researched beyond sensationalism. They’re garbage.

According to bee keepers hives die off over the winter and are restored fairly easily. We have enough hives and the system is working. We’re dealing with a level of ignorance that makes the wrongly called Dark Ages look bright by comparison.

It’s Pavlovian the way the Left reaches out, strokes primitive emotion and gets the reaction they want. Actually, it’s devilish.

The misnomer colony collapse is a historic phenomenon and has nothing to do with the modern world the Left loves to hate. If bees can’t compete in the modern world then they always have extinction. I mean, that’s the history of the world: extinction. If we need bees we’ll figure out a way to keep them around.

The history of mankind is we don’t let valuable resources go to waste.

I’ve got a neighbor who intends to put a couple of hives on the far side of my garage. He’s trying to grow the number of hives and is placing about 20 of them around our little town. (Everybody here has fruit trees)

I’d be interested to know why the number of frogs has been reduced. We still hear tree frogs but no big croaks from their larger cousins...
