Since then, he’s pretty much been a man of leisure, save the official goodwill visits and other ceremonial functions, with and without the Queen.

Au contraire. Up until about two years ago when he fell ill, Prince Philip had the busiest calendar of any of the royals, being a patron of some 800 organizations. The Brits are often on the discussion forums complaining how little the younger princes do in comparison.
