An illegal immigrant from Mexico, serving time in a federal prison for unlawfully reentering the U.S., will appear before a judge next week over his alleged involvement in the killing of a homeless woman 18 years ago in California.
On Aug. 16, 1997, Linda Louise Archer, 43, was beaten to death in her campsite off Highway 101 near Castillo Street, Fox News reported Saturday.
The Santa Barbara Police Department announced Thursday that the suspected killer in the cold case, Manuel Salmeron Manzanares, 36, was arrested on suspicion of murder last month upon his release from federal custody.
DNA evidence submitted to the California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Services laboratory from the Archer case was matched to that of a profile in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System, Fox reported.
“The matched profile was that of Manzanares, a federal inmate in custody for illegally re-entering the United States after previously being deported as a convicted felon,” Santa Barbara Police Sgt. Riley Harwood, said in a statement, Fox reported.

This would have been the biggest story of the week, if Trump hadn’t distracted.
This is only a story because of Trump. You never would have heard of it otherwise.
Completely the opposite. This was the story that could of made a break in the immigration story. It was swept under the rug because of Trump’s attention grabbing.
You’re kidding, right? The ONLY reason some media is reporting “illegal immigrant” stories is because Trump made it a national focus.
How do you figure that? This could have been a huge story, but the media had a perfect excuse to downplay it.
Downplay it? I’ve seen this story posted from three or four different sources here on FR. The ONLY reason it’s getting any traction is Trump.
Two Sacramento area deputies were kill by a twice deported illegal last October. It made the local media for a few days, Fox for about 2. The media has been sweeping these stories under the rug for decades. Now all of a sudden they are making national news.
Your Trump Derangement Syndrome is preventing you from thinking logically.
You posting this about the illegal entering and re-entering and murdering innocent people, then trying to connect it to Trump shows how desperately stupid you are.
Keep it up, find more evidence to bolster Trump.

Looks like Manuel Salmeron Manzanares will have to vote from jail this election Hillary grins.
He's just one-trick pony or a paid hack. Never mentions who he is for, just bashes Trump, though he IS good for throwing racks at.
