New York, NY – -(Ammoland.com)- Hello Mr Trump. Many of our readers are very excited that you have thrown your hat in the ring to run for president in 2016.

They like the idea that you have nothing to do with politics and that you have real experience running large, successful business, successful being the key word. I hope you and your family are up for the challenges of running for president.

AmmoLand: Speaking of family I know you and your sons recently attended the 2015 NRA Annual Meeting, where you were asked to speak. How long have you been active with the NRA and what do you think about the influence the NRA has in politics?

Donald Trump:

“I am a Life Member of the NRA and am proud of their service in protecting our right to keep and bear arms. The NRA’s efforts to stop dangerous, gun-banning legislation and regulation is invaluable. The media focus on those efforts overshadows the great work the NRA does on behalf of safety and conservation.

Trump

It’s often argued that the American murder rate is high because guns are more available here than in other countries. After a tragedy like the massacre at Columbine High School, anyone could feel that it is too easy for Americans to get their hands on weapons. But nobody has a good solution. This is another issue where you see the extremes of the two existing major parties. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within seventy-two hours if a potential gun owner has a record.

Then you support gun control. Background checks turn a God given right into a government granted privilege. No sale.

Can we assume The Donald would defend not only the letter of the 2A, but the spirit as well?

Meaning idiotic interpretations like it’s only meant for hunting rifles or it’s only meant for Mike Bloomberg and Oprah’s bodyguards - things like that.

Goodbye, Mr. Trump.

Joins Ben Carson on the scrap heap of candidates.

Did you read the article?

Did you post an "article"? All I see is four sentences and a link to a blog.

Post an article and folks will read it.

In the article Trump says background checks fail to work. He does not consider AR 15’s assault rifles and says gun control advocates try to classify popular weapons as assault weapons.

I read the article....and his book excerpt, and his donation to Hillary for President.

I think he's a publicity hound playing conservative populists for fools to feed his ego. TALKING tough isn't BEING tough. TALKING tough is nothing more than a big mouth. His defenders call it "telling the truth" or "standing for something" when he wasn't standing for anything outside of running his trap.

Why the Hell would I vote for a Hillary donor when I have perfectly good choices in Cruz or Walker?

I read the article and understood him to say (”I stand by .. and did not reaffirm his position of 15 years ago) that he repudiates his position on banning “assault weapons” (whatever that means).
But as long as he’s afflicting the comfortable (Dems/GOP) re the ongoing invasion of our country, he can advocate cats and dogs living together.

The Donald says all the right things.

I'd rather vote for someone that does all the right things instead of saying the right things.

John Boehner says the right things. Does he do the right things? Nope.

In typical Trump fashion, he didn't repudiate what he wrote in his book, instead he only addresses the AR-15.

AmmoLand: The deceptive term “Assault Weapons” has proven to be a buzz word among the anti-gun media. Back in 2000 in your book “The America We Deserve” you wrote “The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse to even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.” Since that time the AR15 rifle, what the media calls an “assault weapons“, has become America’s most popular firearm with millions and millions of them owned by good people.

Do you still stand by this quote or has your thinking evolved over the 15 years since you wrote that line?

Donald Trump:

“I certainly stand by my opposition to Gun Control when it comes to taking guns from law-abiding citizens.  You mention that the media describes the AR-15 as an “assault rifle,” which is one example of the many distortions they use to sell their agenda.  However, the AR-15 does not fall under this category.  Gun-banners are unfortunately preoccupied with the AR-15, magazine capacity, grips, and other aesthetics, precisely because of its popularity.”

“To the Left every gun is an assault weapon.”

“Gun control does not reduce crime. It has consistently failed to stop violence. Americans are entitled to protect their families, their property and themselves. In fact, in right-to-carry states the violent crime rate is 24% lower than the rest of the United States and the murder rate is 28% lower. This should not be up for debate.”
