I have the highest respect for Gasparino after reading his book on the crash of 2008, “The Sellout.” He knows the day by day, meeting by meeting, person by person history of what happened. It’s the best of the several books I’ve read on that period.

The report he references doesn’t have a lot of information. It states that Slim was contacted about Project Verde, but Dick Fuld (Lehman Chairman) doesn’t give much away, calling it a “conversation in the hallway.”

Still, it’s clear that Jeb and George W. have used their family name to access influential business opportunies (for GW there was the baseball team ownership and the Zapata drilling company). There’s nothing intrinsically wrong about using your connections, but this is a “come clean” situation where a more forthcoming answer is in order.
