[snip] ...A senior intelligence officer said Saadun was arrested on Thursday “without resistance” in the northern province of Kirkuk following an operation that lasted more than a year.
Saadun held various senior positions in Saddam’s Baath party, and the US military had previously said he was wanted for crimes against humanity committed during the suppression of a 1999 Shiite uprising.

He was the five of diamonds in the US military deck of cards picturing the most-wanted officials from Saddam’s regime.

Izzat Ibrahim Al-Duri, the most senior Baathist still at large, was said to have been killed earlier this year, but Iraq later admitted it lacked the necessary DNA results to confirm his identity....[/snip]

Ansar al Islam commander Abu Wael’s wife is Izzat al-Douri’s cousin, BTW.
Ansar al Islam, Krekar’s group, merged into Zarqawi’s al Tawhid group and became al Qaeda in the Land Between the Rivers when Zarqawi formally swore bayat to bin Laden; then they were joined by General al Dhouri and son and his Baathist insurgent followers who swore bayat to Zarqawi to become Al Qaeda in Iraq...which after the surge was largely driven into Syria, from which, after Obama was elected and pulled out most of our troops, rebounded and poured into Iraq under the name of ISIL/ISIS/Daesh...
Repeat after me... there is no connection between Saddam and al Qaeda...there is no connection...
