Multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation into the slaying of 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle told NBC News on Wednesday that the weapon used in murder belonged to an agent with the Bureau of Land Management. They did not immediately identify the agent.
BLM spokesperson Dan Wilson said the service weapon was issued to a ranger and stolen from the agent's car while he was in San Francisco on business. Originally, sources had said the gun was a personal weapon.
Sources also could not immediately say how Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, a felon and five-time deportee, obtained the weapon, which was described as a .40-caliber handgun.

Heard he found it under a park bench wrapped in cloth....and also that he didn’t mean to shoot her...that it went off accidently. The bullets got in the gun accidently, too.
I’m seeing another bright side to this otherwise appalling story. Considering that a real classy Mexican like this guy has a hyphenated last name, maybe that will put an end to people doing this garbage.
Crickets are chirping, my they’re loud.
Would the anti-gun leftist rags like this ask the question, Why does the Bureau of Land Management need guns?
Little Bill will ask: Yeah, its just for snakes and such.
Yeah well that was the day before yesterday. And yesterday the gun belonged to an FBI agent. Soooo they’re still massaging their story.
in San Francisco on business —
What in Heck “Land” does the Bureau manage in SF?
Need to put up “No Vehicular Passage” signs on Lombard Street?
But but but only cops should have guns. We need more gun control. And global warming. Bush’s fault! Cruz’s and Trump’s, too! /lib “think”
Focus on the illegal alien— not the gun— Focus on the republicans and rats that let him in. I have a suggestion for Trump. If you are a “sanctuary” ( allow illegal alien murdering) city— No federal funds until you stop. Not one damned dime. Those cities will go broke in 60 days. So sad.
BTW, I do not mean to make light of the murder of this woman. I am just mocking the left idiots who are doing exactly that.
The BLM shouldn’t be allowed to carry firearms.
Problems with leaving a firearm in a vehicle can be lessened with a gun lock box with security cable. These are sold at gun stores, Amazon and other places. It delays a thief long enough that he may give up rather than being caught in the act.
I’d suggest federal criminal prosecution of any officials who support sanctuary city policies as accomplices to any crimes committed by illegal aliens.
IOW, start putting them in prison for the wreckage of real people’s lives they have caused.
+1
Regardless of the origin of the gun, Nasty Pelosi told a reporter that the San Francisco murder was another reason for more background checks.
Pelosi said that the killing of Kathryn Steinle in by a gun, made It essential for Congress to take a vote on the Brady background check bill. The bill, H.R. 1217, would amend the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.
I saw a BLM SUV in Marin County....just north of San Francisco several days ago......the first Ive seen in forty years!! It struck me as rather odd
I wonder if it was driven by the same agent.?
Looks like Juan stole the gun to try and rob some folks.
...why does the Bureau of Land Management need guns?...
Maybe they will be used by a new President to help the Border Patrol to capture and keep illegal aliens out.
By the standards set in charleston, the BLM should be eliminated immediately and every illegal in America deported asap. That’s the new standard right?
Don’t forget he was trying to shoot a seal. I guess the girl resemble a seal...NOT!
In the entire world, putting a loaded, stolen gun under a bench where it is found by a criminal who kills someone is called a setup for a hit.
Except in San Francisco.
In San Francisco, the gun was “lost,” then “discovered,” then it “went off by itself” and the shooter is a “poor immigrant” who “didn’t even know he shot anyone.”
But that’s not even the kicker - the kicker is that everyone ACCEPTS that explanation.
