“The C150 was likely IFR “

Not a C150, and not 11 miles north of Charleston.

Years ago I was descending into Wilmington NC from Ontario. I was out of 9000 ft. descending at 200 Kt. The military controller called traffic my 9 o’clock 16 miles. I told the guy in the back left seat to look left! It was a perfect 90 degree intercept by a F15 two ship. I looked down and could see the pilot’s knee board. They departed up and to the left QUICKLY. Quite the thrill!

That is the “turkey feather” exhaust and part of the afterburner of the F-16’s engine. It is normally located just aft of the horizontal and vertical stabilizers

Flying an OH-58A chopper along the SC coast, I often saw A-10s from now closed Myrtle Beach AFB at the same altitude or lower than me.

IP had told me that if I ever thought I was on a collision course, to turn toward them & aim for their tail assembly. Said this would guarantee the fast mover would overshoot me & miss. Never had to use the maneuver.

Strange this F-16/Cessna mixup wasn’t seen by ATC. Assume they both had transponders.

I used to Contract with an Aviation Company that flew Lear Jets that transport Financial Documents for the Bank I used to work for.

They were doing a Promotional Photo Shoot of one of their Lear’s in Flight over the Nevada Desert and a F-117 Stealth Fighter pulled in about 500 feet above them.

The guy that owned the company had mentioned to a Friend, who just happened to be one of the big guys in that Wing that they would be out that day doing the Shoot.

I think even he was surprised when it happened. I still have the Photo hanging on the Wall in my Office.

To be more clear, it’s the rear of the plane. It’s the augmenter and in this video it’s where the flames are;

I think you know I mean airspace civilian aircraft are restricted from entering... KSC during launch operations , WDW is restricted without permission , anywhere around the white hut or obammy’s current location, live military operations areas... etc. etc.

Thinking about it, in this Mid Air Collision it is a Miracle that the F-16 Pilot survived unless he punched out right before the Collision or it was a glancing blow that gave him enough time. Yeah, I know, it would have been one hell of a glancing blow.

I’m not an F-16 Pilot, nor do I play one of TV. No, I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. In other words, pure speculation on my part. LOL

It will be interesting when the facts come out.

1957-1963 C150 had no back window. 1964-1977 had a back window. The C152 was introduced in 1977.

My Dad owned a 1963 C150C in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. We flew almost every weekend around Northern California. I got my private pilot’s license in a C152 in the mid 1980’s.

First in with... do you suppose the F16 was trying to take out the other plane?

you simply aren't paranoid enough.

The muslim pilot of the Cessna was trying to take out an American war plane...

Not necessarily. I learned on a 150 that resembled more the other photo. The 150 and 172 were updated to add the rear window, more slanted tail, etc.

Cheers,
Jim
